American Tori Bowie says it has not sunk in that she is the world 100m champion.

"I feel the hard work has finally paid off," she tells BBC Sport. "I couldn't be more happy. It hasn't even sunk in. Am I really the world champion?

Bowie fell after crossing the finishing line.

"I'm a bit bit sore but I'm pretty sure it is nothing major," adds the 26-year-old.

Holly Bradshaw's early failures at 4.65 really cost her a medal. She will learn from this.There is more to come from her for sure.

This was how close it was between the top two.

It looked for all the world like the Ivory Coast's Marie Josee Ta Lou had it in the bag, but Tori Bowie's lunge for the line snatched the title.

The American was sent sprawling as she flung her momentum forward, but there is a shiny gold to go with the grazes.

Elaine Thompson is refusing to make excuses for her failure to win a medal.

"I tried to get a start," the Jamaican tells BBC Sport. "I don't know what happened, I'll have to look back and watch. I don't want to make excuses. It was a strong field and I competed with these girls all season."

After Usain Bolt was usurped by Justin Gatlin last night, it is another body blow to Jamaica's recent sprint dominance.

It was way back in 2005 in Helsinki that they failed to land either the men's or women's 100m title at a world championships.

Dafne Schippers took bronze and it looks like a little stumble midway down the straight might have cost favourite Elaine Thompson.

The Jamaican is not giving away anything in her post-race interview with the BBC.

Elaine Thompson just couldn't get in the race. She was completely left and will be asking herself 'what went wrong?'

It was mighty close and red-hot favourite Elaine Thompson was nowhere.

Instead Tori Bowie's superb death-or-glory dip on the line sends her sprawling to gold, one hundreth ahead of Ivory Coasts Marie Josee Ta Lou.

The American clocks 10.85 seconds - a season's best - while Ta Lou is timed at 10.86, which is a personal best.
