It's the first time in almost 20 years that AS levels haven't counted towards the final grade in some subjects. The changes include decoupling AS-levels from A-levels so AS results no longer contribute towards a final A-level mark. The first students to sit new A-levels in England will get their results today. A drop in university applications this year means there will still be many places available. Clare Marchant is chief executive of UCAS and Alistair Jarvis is chief executive of Universities UK.
