    An unofficial plaque has been placed on the statue of Edward Colston in Bristol city centre.

    The Unauthorised Heritage plaque appeared overnight and highlights Colston's slave trade links.

    A retired teacher who lives near Malmesbury has changed the name of his house because of his politics.

    Until earlier this year, Andy Perry's home in the village of Cleverton was called May Cottage.

    He decided to change the name after hearing joggers remarking on the name during the general election campaign.

  4. Cathedral showing for The Terminator

    The Terminator

    One of cinema's most legendary and apocalyptic films, The Terminator, is to be shown inside Bristol Cathedral.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger will be strutting his deadly robotic thing as part of a series of films, starting next month, exploring cinema's links with religion.

    The programme, Electric Shadows at the Cathedral, also includes Contact starring Jodie Foster and James Woods; Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro in The Mission; the Canadian film Jesus of Montreal and award-winning Days of Heaven.

  5. 'John Cleese bought my artwork'

    A display of artwork by fantasy artist Rodney Matthews has gone on show in Bourton-on-the-Water.

    The exhibition, entitled Alice in Wonderland and other tales, is on from today until Monday at The Victoria Hall.

    Rodney says comedian John Cleese is one of his most famous customers.

  6. Ever fancied driving a Bristol bus ... and hearing legendary words "cheers drive"?

    Bristol's Lawrence Hill Bus depot is holding an open day on Saturday where you can take a ride through a bus wash and have a go at driving a bus.

    The community event - and recruitment drive - takes place between 11 and 3 -and visitors are encouraged to use public transport to get to the depot.

    It offers a peek behind the scenes of a working bus depot and encourage people to consider a career with the company.

    Most of the activities are free but funds raised on the day will go to Prostate Cancer UK.

  7. Student asks, 'is Portishead a commuter town?'

    A student from Portishead has had more than 700 responses to a survey asking about the town's residents.

    Jack Collard is asking "to what extent Portishead is a 'commuter town' where the majority of the population leave for work, only to return to sleep and not spending time or money in their town".

    He's still collecting responses to the survey which is part of his A Level Geography project.

    Bristol City could hand a debut to striker Cauley Woodrow, who joined on loan from Fulham on Thursday.

    The England Under-21 international's arrival is welcome, with Milan Djuric and Matty Taylor (both groin) out.

  12. Skier suffers 'severe' head injury

    Aerial skier Lloyd Wallace has suffered a "severe" head injury in a training crash in Switzerland.

    The International Ski Federation says world junior bronze medallist Wallace, who lives near Semley in Wiltshire, is in a "light coma but stable" after being flown to the University Hospital Zurich by helicopter.

    A detailed prognosis "will become clear in five or six days", they added.

  13. University student aims to head for the stars

    Many dream of going into space, but how many have what it takes? An astronaut and other experts are taking to TV to choose one winner from 12 exceptional applicants.

    Featured in Astronauts - Do you have what it takes? is Tim Gregory, a PhD student from the University of Bristol.

    At present, the 23-year-old is completing his studies in Cosmochemistry, specialising in analysing meteorites to investigate the evolution of our Solar System.

    He's now an academic high-flyer who tours local schools in Bristol to give inspirational science talks and says he owes any success to his hard-working mum who raised him and his sister alone.

    The series starts on BBC Two on Sunday at 9pm, and it will also be available on the BBC iPlayer shortly afterwards.

  14. Rare bat rescued after being found on the ground

    A rare long-eared bat is being looked after at a wildlife centre near Taunton after being rescued.

    The creature weighs just 5g - 2g less than she should - and is the size of a ping pong ball.

    The bat was found on the ground in the village of Merriott, near Crewkerne, and was taken to the RSPCA's West Hatch Wildlife Centre.

  15. Remembering when Brucie played Glastonbury

    It was the last day of Glastonbury in 2013 and the crowds had gathered to watch Mumford and Sons and ...Sir Bruce Forsyth.

    Aged 85 at the time, he was a surprise hit.

    His audience was so big security officials had to prevent any more people getting in to the Avalon stage venue.

    It's thought 2,500 people watched him sing, tap dance and play the piano.

    "I haven't experienced anything like that," said Brucie, "that was more than good, it was over the top."

  16. Sir Bruce Forsyth: TV legend dies aged 89

    Sir Bruce and Lady Forsyth married in 1983

    Sir Bruce Forsyth, the veteran entertainer and presenter of many successful TV shows, has died aged 89.

    He had been unwell for some time and was in hospital earlier this year after a severe chest infection.

  17. Prisoners to get phones and computers

    Prisoners in Bristol will soon have telephones and computers fitted inside their cells.

    The scheme aims to combat mobile phones being smuggled illegally into prisons.

    All calls will be strictly monitored and the computers will not be connected to the internet.

  18. Fantasy art exhibition begins in Cotswold village

    An exhibition of artwork by one of the world's leading fantasy artists has begun in the Cotswolds.

    The display by Rodney Matthews, called Alice in Wonderland and other tales, is on from today until Monday at The Victoria Hall in Bourton-on-the-Water.

    The Somerset-born artist now lives in Gloucestershire and his career spans over 50 years.

    His paintings of strange creatures, exotic plants and lavish landscapes have adorned the record covers of rock artists such as Asia, Magnum, Nazareth and Rick Wakeman.
