How England took 19 wickets in a day

Kemar Roach bent his back and put in the effort with the ball but England had their own way in the first innings. From then on, it's been a bowling masterclass.

Trevor Bayliss on the West Indies' struggles: "I don't think this era of cricket is any different to any other era. There's always been strong teams and one or two that are struggling. West Indies are going through a rough time but 20, 40, 60 years ago there were other teams that were going through rough periods."

We need West Indies; the game needs West Indies. We need to see them competing and if the ICC needs to spend money to improve their structure, their first class cricket and to send some coaches over, then so be it. This won't be a quick fix.

England coach Trevor Bayliss speaking to Test Match Special: "The boys have a big smile on their face, but we will keep working hard and try and win the next Test. They have extra two days at home now which is nice in a long summer.

"It was a good win. We had to work hard against South Africa and this one obviously was a little bit easier but West Indies have plenty of pride and I'm sure they will come out fighting in the next Test."

James Anderson has bowled beautifully. He's got his length right and got the ball moving around. Especially his pace and that zip. I have seen enough from him this summer to realise there is plenty left in his tank.

Stuart Broad, who took 3-43 in the second innings, speaking to Test Match Special: "Ian Botham has been a hero of mine. I used to watch him play, especially when he played with my dad. He had a great influence on me. His performances against Australia are inspirational. It's a special day.

"He gave me my Test cap in 2007 but six months before that I got a call up to the West Indies and he was there. He gave me advice, saying, 'You're in this position because you've performed for your county so just relax and don't put extra pressure on yourself.' That advice is something I've always tried to hold on to."

The reason Woakes didn't play this week was that he didn't have enough cricket - well, that won't change at Headingley. The only way I can see it happening is if they rest Broad or Anderson, but neither will want to be rested. If they get 2-0 up in the series, then they may rest one of them and bring Woakes in. I think they will stick with the winning team.

England captain Joe Root on Test Match Special: "We were relentless on a wicket that did do a little bit. When you have the skill of Broad, Anderson and the other guys, it can be difficult for the opposition.

"It's important we rest up and stay fresh. We now have a bonus day off for the lads to put their feet up.

"I hope Chris Woakes is fit for Leeds - it can only add to the strength of the team. Whether we change the winning XI, we will have to wait and see."

The same problems England had before the summer are still same problems they have now. They have won four out five Tests but there are still problems at batting positions two, three and five. I think England will only bat twice more in this series, once at Headingley and once at Lord's.

England batted only once in this Test, which means Mark Stoneman and Tom Westley, must wait for the second Test for another chance to impress.

England captain Joe Root, speaking to Sky Sports about Stuart Broad: "Very remarkable. Very pleasing. We talk about being ruthless. Stuart Broad has had a fantastic career to date and I am sure there is plenty more left in the tank. He has those spells in him where he can turn a game on its head. Today was a fine example of that. He is very skillful and has a number of different deliveries.

"As a whole squad we are always looking at ways to get better and ways to improve and it is great to see the senior guys leading that."

Probably the best wicket of the day - and there was plenty to choose from - was this that took Broad past Botham's tally. Wicket number 384. Drink it in.

Test cricket needs to bring in two divisions, where teams know they can get relegated or promoted, so the same standard of teams play against each other. What we have seen over the few days is not good for the game.

A pink ball, day-night, it doesn't matter. The gulf in class is so wide, the product of the game isn't good to see. They need to make Test cricket relevant so we know every two years who the best team in the world is.

West Indies captain Jason Holder, speaking to Sky Sports: "I felt we were in the game in the first session but Cook and Root put on a really good partnership for England.

"It is obviously very disappointing. We have to just believe. We have a few days off now, the idea is to use them wisely. It is not impossible, we can't drop our heads on one game the series is not lost. We just need to believe and come back stronger for the second Test match."

There was a nice moment just now between Stuart Broad and Ian Botham. Botham says it was quite emotional, watching Broad get close to overtaking his tally, while Broad pays tribute to a man that he says inspired him as a youngster to play cricket.
