The organisers of the Leeds West Indian Carnival say a record number of people turned out for this years' event.

They say over 200,000 people were at the 50th birthday parade and party in Potternewton Park - last year's estimated attendance was 160,000.

I'm currently in Rotherham where South Yorkshire Police have arrested three people on suspicion of murder after a man's body was found at a flat in the town.

Emergency services were called to Badsley Moor Lane in Herringthorpe just after midnight following the discovery of the body of a 43-year-old man.

A team of chefs from a Sheffield hotel have been cooking up a storm for a local charity which supports homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded adults across the city.

Chefs from the 18Fifty5 restaurant at the Copthorne Hotel Sheffield are providing lunches for St Wilfrid’s Centre,Queen’s Road in Sheffield, for a week while the charity’s chef takes a holiday from her busy role.

The team is preparing all the food in the kitchen at the hotel, which is then being delivered daily for the clients to eat.

Hundreds of people have signed an online petition urging council planners to change their minds about rejecting changes for a shop in Kirklees.

Neil Kapusi, from Mirfield, wants to have the front of his Ushiwear shop re-clad with wood, but the council says the design would compromise the wider street scene, because it wouldn't be in-keeping with the surrounding area.

Within 24-hours 500 people had signed a petition supporting Neil.

He says he's been surprised and delighted by the support his cladding idea has received.

Bradford racer Dean Harrison claimed victory in the showpiece Superbike Classic TT in a new race record at the Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling.

The Silicone Engineering Kawasaki rider finished 16.048 seconds ahead of Bruce Anstey, who won Saturday's Lightweight race and set a new lap record.

Harrison, 28, said he was "chuffed to win".

Harrison placed sixth in the Junior Classic before his later victory in the Superbike event - both held on the TT course.

A man has been injured after a shooting in Leeds in the early hours of yesterday morning - another man has been arrested.

It happened in Chapeltown at about 02:20 on Cowper Street when a gun was fired.

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with an injury to his arm and police say they have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the shooting.

Police say threats of acid attacks on Muslims in Bradford are being treated as hate crimes.

Anonymous letters have been found circulating in the Hanover Square area of the city, saying that women who wear burkas will be targeted.

Police say they are trying to find out who's behind the letters and have increased patrols in the area.

A spokesperson said "The incident is being treated as a hate crime and being taken extremely seriously".

South Yorkshire Police officers investigating an incident in which an elderly woman was conned out of her bank card have released CCTV images of a man they would like to trace.

The incident took place at about 13:00 on Friday 4 August when an 80-year-old woman received a phone call from someone who claimed to be from the fraud department of her bank.

She was asked to give bank details over the phone, before someone later came to her house to collect the card.

It was then used at the Meadowhall shopping centre several times, with the transactions amounting to £3,200.

A former clergyman has admitted a series sex abuse offences against underage girls in Lincolnshire.

John Bailey, 76, from Kippax, Leeds, admitted 25 charges of indecent assault on girls under the age of 14.

Six of the charges involved a victim who was sexually abused between March 1955 and March 1959.

A further 18 charges related to a second victim between February 1974 and February 1982.

The final charge was for sexually abusing a third girl between January 1979 and January 1982.

Apprentices have started at Hitachi’s newly built £80m depot in Doncaster as part of a national training programme today.

The site in the town will receive four trainees each year, with the new recruits attending the National Training Academy, as well as Doncaster College as they start to study for their Level 3 in Railway Engineering.

South Yorkshire Police are asking witnesses to come forward after a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed into a tree during the bank holiday weekend.

It happened at about 14:25 on Sunday afternoon on Rivelin Valley Road near Hillsborough in Sheffield.

The 39-year-old man has been taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition and any information can be passed on to the force via 101.

A patient who has spent his entire life being treated by doctors in Sheffield has raised thousands for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity to buy equipment to boost the care of fellow kidney patients.

Sam Blackburn (pictured centre), 32, from Killamarsh is currently recovering from a second kidney transplant.

As a thank you for his continued treatment Sam decided to raise funds for smart TVs to be installed throughout the renal department at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital.

In total he's raised £6,500 to help fund the televisions which will not only provide entertainment to patients during stays, but will also improve the information available to them about their stay.

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a gun was fired this lunchtime in Dewsbury.

It happened on Ravenshouse Road just after 13:00. A man in his twenties was injured and police are still at the scene.
