Pep Guardiola may have earned himself some poor favour in North London by referring to Tottenham Hotspur recently as "the Harry Kane team".

But Spurs last night proved the Spaniard wrong, with an impressive performance against the European Champions, taking them top of a very formidable group.

One specific Spurs player did stand out for many, though - and this time it wasn't The Hurrikane himself.

He's been called a cat…

He was definitely their rock at the back…

Or perhaps a wall, if you will. An "impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful" wall, to paraphrase an American statesman

Comparisons were quickly made with Manchester United’s wonder-keeper, of whom much has been said after an incredible save against Liverpool at the weekend…

Comparisons which some Spurs fans didn’t appreciate…

Comparisons, in fact, which some fans thought were altogether unwarranted…

Either way, Spurs put a big statement out to the rest of Europe last night and we can’t wait to see them play Liverpool this Sunday to see if Hugo can do as good a save against Joel Matip as David De Gea did last weekend.

Ahem, we’re joking. Well done Hugo…
