FA Cup: Oldham into round two after dramatic win over Hampton & Richmond

Hampton & Richmond manager Gary McCann, speaking to BT Sport: "The equaliser drove them on a little and gave them the extra yard. It is the fine details.

"On a free-kick - it is something we had worked on this week - it came off but we fluffed our lines on the last bit. fair play to them, they broke really well. The fitness and the fine lines told in the end.

"He (goalkeeper Tom Lovelock) was outstanding. He put in a big performance and made crucial saves. We got a bit of fortune but you earn your own luck. We defended brilliantly in front of him. I thought we had just done enough. They looked like they were running out of ideas."

But in the end Callum Lang snatched the winner in the 94th minute to send Oldham through and knock out Hampton & Richmond.

And again...

They came close again.

For so long for Oldham it had looked like it wasn't going to be their night.

And it was Robert Hunt who snatched the equaliser for Oldham. What a relief this must have been for the League Two side.

Oldham defender Robert Hunt, speaking to BT Sport: "You could see form the first half how many chances we had. Thankfully we got the goal and the second followed. A tough place to come but we got the win.

"It has been a mixed start to the season. We knew it would be difficult. Hopefully we can take this positive result into the league."

Stu: Hampton and Richmond should not be too gutted as they can be proud of their performance tonight.

Oldham meanwhile will play Maidstone United in round two.

These are not the final whistle scenes it looked like we'd be getting. I was expecting a pitch invasion and the like but instead the Hampton players are having to drag themselves from the field.

The home fans are applauding the efforts, however.

But it's all over now.

Hampton & Richmond were so, so close to a famous win but it's relief for Oldham.

Ooooof! That was the chance! Hampton manage to get it forward but Rian Bray's header goes wide.

Hampton boss Gary McCann has his head in his hands. Not the fairytale ending it looked like for him.

Oldham have the ball in the corner. 30 seconds left.

Is there time for one more chance for Hampton?

There are still two minutes of stoppage time left but it's Oldham on the attack again and they are only denied by another top save.

Oldham are camped in the Hampton & Richmond half but Jack Connors wins a free-kick for the hosts.

It was actually a really well-worked set-piece from Hampton & Richmond. They confused Oldham and Joseph had a great chance to unload a shot. The mistake is from Concoran, who has to be the safety net. He has allowed for the counter. I would have liked to have seen someone take the man out before he had chance to break.

It's really nervy now. There are screams every time the ball goes into the box from the home fans.
