"I think we played well today," boss Mick McCarthy told me afterwards. "We had to defend in the first half, and they did it really well; they were organised and disciplined.

"We scored an early goal (through David McGoldrick) and I thought that when we were on top at the beginning we could've done better with some of our opportunities.

"Overall though, I thought it was a good performance from us and I thought we deserved something out of the game."

  9. Fears over safety of building lead to road closure

The top of Bramford Road, Ipswich, will be closed at its junction with Norwich Road this evening in both directions for motorists and pedestrians, because of concerns over the safety of one of the adjacent buildings.

Access to Benezet Street from Norwich Road will continue, and diversion routes will be in place.

    Former Rose and Crown building

The building, the former Rose & Crown pub, has been undergoing restoration work but the borough council, after taking advice from the Health & Safety Executive and independent structural engineers and scaffolding consultants, has concluded it is now structurally unsound.

Council chief executive Russell Williams said: "We have closed the road because public safety is our foremost concern."

He said the road would be reopened as soon as possible.
