Bayern Munich 3-1 Tottenham - reaction

Bayern Munich teenager Alphonso Davies was one of the stars of the show tonight - and he's got a heck of a back story.

Our colleagues at Football Focus went to meet him earlier this year...

Juan Foyth never stopped trying and I think Jose Mourinho liked that. He had Ricardo Carvalho at Chelsea who was rash but he had heart.

He realises the young lad has had a difficult game but he did not hide. It is the perfect example of somebody that has not had a great night but Mourinho likes his personality.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "A good match for me. I don't want to speak about conclusions because it is too strong a word but I would say important information. I give you clearly a positive example because they are easier. Today I learned a lot about Juan Foyth. He didn't play one minute for me until today and I learned more in these 90 minutes than I did in two or three weeks of training. No conclusions but good information.

"I would prefer to win or to draw and for Son to score in the last minute and lose 3-2 rather than 3-1 of course but we knew the match was important for other reasons. We didn't want a result that leaves a shadow on us but I think positive things about many of the boys.

On Ryan Sessegnon: "That is his quality, that is the quality we know he has. He arrives always in dangerous positions and he is a good finisher. He can improve, he lost too many individual duels. He has a lot to develop but the potential is there."

Jose Mourinho had that sarcastic smirk on his face in his post-match interview. Think one or two underachieving Spurs players might have pushed themselves closer to the exit door...

Tottenham's Ryan Sessegnon, speaking to BT Sport: "If you don't take your chances against the big teams you get punished. We knew it would be tough coming here, disappointed we didn't get the win today. We were chasing the ball but I think we got into good positions in the transitions."

On scoring on his full debut: "I felt good. Physically towards the end I felt tired but physically I felt good and to get the goal was good as well. That's what I want to do. I came to the club injured, it was difficult at the start but now I just want to get more minutes now."

Enough from Ryan Sessegnon tonight to suggest he is going to be a star for many years to come at Spurs.

Bayern Munich were at it in the first half and they made a makeshift Tottenham side look makeshift.

Ryan Sessegnon scored the goal and looked lively but he did tire. Christian Eriksen has fallen out of love with the club and he obviously doesn't want to be there.

You'd suggest Leipzig and Valencia are the opponents that Spurs might be hoping for.

The draw takes place at 11:00 GMT on Monday, with group winners and runners-up separated. Teams also can't play sides from their own nation.

That means that Liverpool could not face Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea or Napoli, while Spurs will also avoid Bayern Munich and City cannot face Atalanta again.

The seeded group winners will play away first ensuring they have home advantage in the second leg.

The last 16 fixtures begin on 18-19 February and 25-26 February, with the second legs concluding the ties on 10-11 March and 17-18 March.

So we know the identity of the 16 Champions League teams who have progressed to the knockout phase.

Group winners: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Leipzig, Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris St-Germain, Valencia.

Runners-up: Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Lyon, Napoli, Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur.

Atletico's win meant Bayer Leverkusen were out regardless of what happened in Turin. Five wins out of six for Juventus, who finish well clear at the top of Group D.

Nice of Gonzalo Higuain to pop up with a late stoppage time goal as well.

As Champions League performances go it's been a pretty comfortable night for Atletico.

They needed a win to be certain of qualifying for the last 16 and to be honest it never looked in doubt.

Kieran Trippier saw his early penalty saved but Joao Felix then scored the hosts' second spot-kick of the night.

And Felipe's second-half volley confirmed Atletico's progression.

So we know Bayern and Spurs are already in the pot for Monday's last-16 draw, but there was one spot left. And either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen were going to grab it...

Hmmm, the Christian Eriksen conundrum. How do you solve it Spurs fans? The stats might show he made more passes than any other away player tonight and had the second most touches, but the numbers can lie. He didn't look interested for large parts.

Luke: This has been so limp by Spurs over both games. Bayern are struggling big time in their league yet can come and smash Spurs about like they are conference quality twice.

Hamish: Eriksen has been anonymous. Again. Just cash in on Eriksen, even £20m in Jan would give Spurs better value than what he's giving us now

It's all over in Belgium. Real Madrid scored a late third through Luka Modric. Real finish second in the group behind PSG, which we knew before tonight anyway.

Bruges go into the Europa League.

There were lots of changes to this Spurs side and it was another opportunity for Jose Mourinho to find out about the capabilities of his players.

I think he learned a lot tonight about how many of them can operate at this level. To be fair, there were precious few and they were outplayed.

Deserved win for Bayern. That's six from six for the German champions in the group stage.
