  2. Post update

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

If you missed Team GB's 2-0 win over Chile, here's the highlights.

  3. 'We deserved three points'

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Team GB

    Team GB

Team GB boss Hege Riise: "The strategy since we started working together has been to keep possession, control the game, play in behind over the back line. Try to keep attacking in their half and control the game.

"First 30 minutes we looked great and then it became a bit slower, we had chances, we totally deserved three points and we kept them away from our goal - that was important. We were strong enough to keep them away out of possession which is good."

  4. 'It felt amazing'

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Team GB

    Team GB

Ellen White on scoring both of Team GB's goals: "It felt amazing. The first one was disallowed but I feel really proud to be part of Team GB and scoring and contributing to the team felt amazing."

On GB' strategy going into the game: "We had total respect for Chile and what they could bring to the game. We wanted to focus on what we could do. There were moments when we had really great play. There are still things we need to work on but we are really pleased with the three points and we're really looking forward to facing Japan next."

Her message to the fans: "Thank you so much for supporting us. We appreciate it was early but we will do everything we can in this tournament and to do Team GB proud."

  5. GB 'feel so strongly' about taking the knee

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Team GB

    Team GB

Team GB captain Steph Houghton: "Taking the knee was something we spoke about as a group. For us we feel so strongly we want to show we're united to take the knee. We want to fight all forms of discrimination and as a group of women we wanted to kneel against it.

"For us today showed the football we can play. We showed in patches what this team can do with the ball, to come away with the clean sheet and the win was the most important thing."

  6. Post update

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

Time to hear from some of the GB players now.

  7. Post update

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Sue Smith

Former England international on BBC Two

GB will want to win it - individually they have some very good players. Collectively it's how they will come together. Today they did well but yes there are tougher tests to come. I think they will at least expect a medal, let's be positive!

  8. 'Japan game will be very different'

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Casey Stoney

Former England and GB international on BBC Two

It's going to be a very different game [against Japan]. They are technical. You will spend large periods of the game without the ball. Our organisation will be key. They are very clever.

Today's positive is that [goalkeeper] Ellie Roebuck played her first game in a major tournament and was able to grow into it without really being tested.

  9. GB start in style

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    gb celebrate

It's job done for Team GB in their Tokyo 2020 opener.

Ellen White scored either side of the break to put GB in the driving seat in Group E.

Hege Riise's side dominated possession and created a host of chances against Chile in an empty stadium in Sapporo.

You can read Emma Sanders' report here.

  10. 'Swapping Hemp & Stanway wasn't necessary'

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Casey Stoney

Former England and GB international on BBC Two

If I was the Chile right-back I would be thinking thank goodness after half-time when Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway swapped over. Sometimes as coaches we try to make changes to things when we don't need to to try and make an impact. It wasn't necessary - the impact at half time was can we get the ball to Hemp more? Rather than swapping them over, because I don't think they had the same effect.

  11. Post update

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

Marta has just scored her first goal at Tokyo 2020, and look what it means to her.

Brazil lead China 3-0 with just over 10 minutes still to play.

Elsewhere in GB's group, USA trail Sweden 1-0 at haf-time in Toyo through that Stina Blackstenius opener.

  12. 'White will need to play a lot of minutes'

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Casey Stoney

Former England and GB international on BBC Two

Ellen White is also going to be key in this team, they haven't got many options in that position so she needs to be scoring goals. They've got Nikita Parris but White will be first choice. They have got some options but she's probably going to need to play a lot of minutes in this tournament.

Robo Racer: That result will do. Ellen White for Golden Boot? What are the odds?

    Amar Singh: Enjoyed that.

  14. White's brace

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

In case you missed them, here are Ellen White's goals in all their glory.

  15. 'Little could be key in this tournament'

    FT: Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Casey Stoney

Former England and GB international on BBC Two

The midfield three were great - Kim Little controlled and dictated the game and her ability to scan as the ball is on the move is excellent. She constantly has her head moving, where's the ball, take a touch, move it on - and she can beat pressure. The connections in midfield were really good - I really liked the balance of the team today.

I think Little could be key in this tournament, she's such an influential player. I would've taken her off a bit earlier, you don't get much rest time between the games.

  16. FULL-TIME

    Great Britain 2-0 Chile

Great Britain kick off Tokyo 2020 with a comfortable win thanks to Ellen White's Brace in Sapporo.

Chile's must wait a little longer for their first women's goal at an Olympics as their debut ends in defeat.

    GB celebrate
  17. Post update

    Great Britain 2-0 Chile

A late change for GB as Kim Little makes way for Ella Toone. A superb shift from the Scotswoman.

  18. Post update

    Great Britain 2-0 Chile

Five minutes added on. Can Chile find a goal in their women's football Olympic debut? The South Americans are looking leggy.

  19. Post update

    Great Britain 2-0 Chile

    Sue Smith

Former England international on BBC Two

Chile are looking tired - they have worked hard off the ball they've pressed when they can. It's difficult when you don't have the ball for long periods, it does start to get to you.
