There were touches of genius from him tonight.

Next up for Nick Kyrgios is 20-year-old American Brandon Nakashima, the world number 56.

Nakashima knocked out Canadian 13th seed Denis Shapovalov in round two and won 6-4 6-4 6-1 against Colombia's Daniel Galan in the third round.

Kyrgios is into the fourth round of a slam for the first time since the 2020 Australian Open. He last made the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2016 with his best run coming two years earlier when he got to the quarter-finals before he lost to Milos Raonic.

Nick Kygrios speaking in his on-court interview: "Honestly, it was a hell of an atmosphere, an amazing match. I felt like the favourite coming in, I beat him a couple of weeks ago.

"He's a hell of a player, he knows how to beat me, he's beaten me once. I'm so happy to be through. He [Tsitsipas] was getting frustrated at times and it is a frustrating sport.

"I have ultimate respect for him, whatever happens on the court I love him and I'm close with his brother. It's amazing, everywhere I go I seem to have full stadiums. The media loves to say I'm bad for the sport but clearly I'm not."

On preparations for next round: "I'm going to rest, recover and do everything right and hopefully I can keep going."

Looking at the draw, I think Kyrgios - and the way he is serving - he is a beast.

That's got to be the match of the tournament so far.

Shade thrown by Kyrgios.

"I felt like I was the favourite. I beat him a few weeks ago and he's only beaten me once."

But then he adopts a more conciliatory tone.

"He got frustrated, it's a frustrating sport. Whatever happens, I love him."

Ahhh.

A fan on the side opposite the umpire's chair was leant back with his hands placed behind his head and elbows stuck out during those final few points.

Eyes bulged with the stress of what he was watching.

It was a feeling felt by all 10,000 or so on Court One.

An emotional rollercoaster for everyone concerned.
