  3. 'A really tough week'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, speaking to BBC Sport about an emotional win following the death of the club's fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone: "It was a really tough week for us, not only for me - my staff and players and all the Tottenham environment.

"He was a person who was in the heart of every single Tottenham person. It was really tough for us. Tomorrow is the funeral, we will go with the staff. It is very difficult for me to speak about the situation because it is difficult to understand what happened.

"At the end to win a game today against a really strong team like Brighton it shows that I can count not only good players but also good men.

"I try to stay very close to his family because I have known them for a long time. Sometimes life is not always positive things. There are bad situations but at the same time you have to be good to cope with those moments in the right way."

On the game: "It was a good response [to the derby defeat] but we played a really good game with personality at Frankfurt in the Champions League.

"Now we have the chance to play two games in our stadium, our fortress. It is important for the fans to create a good atmosphere in our next game to push us until the end.

"I prefer in this game to start with two strikers because in this moment we have injuries. I am happy because I had a good response from Matt Doherty, Yves Bissouma played from the start, a lot of positive things."

  4. 'There is room for every player'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a good performance especially in a difficult game because Brighton is a really good team. The position in the table shows that they are a really good team with good players. We tried to play with intensity and I think the victory and the win is deserved. A great compliment to Brighton because they are a really good team.

"We wanted to play with one more midfielder because usually we play with two strikers but right now we have Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura injured. When you have to play every three days, you need to give players some rest.

"Richarlison needed some rest, it is a different intensity to Everton so that is why he was on the bench.

"I'm happy that Oliver Skipp came back with us and I'm happy for Matt Doherty to come back after a long injury. There was a lot of positive things and we go away from here with a lot of confidence. We know we have an important game at home on Wednesday and I would like to invite our fans to make a good atmosphere in our stadium for that match.

"When the results are good for our players, I am the first person to be happy. We need to create a unity in the team and every player needs to know that they can play. In my opinion, there is room for every player in my squad."

  5. 'I've scored a few goals here'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane speaking to BBC Sport: "Yeah I've scored a few goals here, it's a really difficult place to come. Brighton are a really good side and we had to work hard for the win.

"We bounced back after the north London Derby defeat and we did that even though it wasn't the best performance.

"We just have to take it game by game, we have the champions League match on Wednesday."

On his goal: "When you're in good form, sometimes those just hit you and go in."

On his injury: "The ankle is ok, no twist or anything so I'm pretty sure it's fine."

  6. 'Rodgers needs big results'

    FT: Bournemouth 2-1 Leicester

    Chris Sutton

    BBC football expert

Leicester have got Crystal Palace and Leeds. Brendan Rodgers need a couple of big results.

They had the chance to sack him before the international break, they didn’t.

Important win against Forest but they’ve lost against Bournemouth. People regard them as a generous game.

Palace at home, Leeds at home – if they lose both of those he is a goner.

  7. 'Only one team in it and it was Brighton'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, speaking to BBC Sport: "I must admit the result today is not fair. After the first 15 minutes there was only one team on the pitch and that team was Brighton.

"I don't believe in lucky or unlucky. The players were fantastic today but when one team played like that today it is a good message for the league for the future.

"In the first half after 15-20 minutes, we played a good 25 minutes. In the second half it was the same. I think for 70 minutes it was a good level of football.

"I want to say thanks to the Brighton fans. They welcomed me very well."

  8. 'It was all Brighton after 15 mins'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, speaking to Sky Sports: "We have played a fantastic game. The result is not fair, 100%. Football is not right and today the result is not good for us.

"After the first 15 minutes I made a mistake in those 15 minutes because I thought Antonio Conte would play 3-4-2-1 but 20 minutes before the game he changed 3-5-2. After the first 15 minutes it was only Brighton.

"The players were fantastic today. I congratulated them. Now I thinking is only on Monday to work.

"Nothing. The football is the same in the UK and Italy. Football is not fair."

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane speaking to Sky Sports: "It's been a difficult week to say the least [due to the passing of Tottenham fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone] and it was nice to get the win today.

"It was a bit of a scrappy goal, Son [Heung-min] whipped one in with pace and it went in. We managed to get the win and we know it's a difficult place to come.

"We've just got to recover and prepare for the Champions League midweek. I'm feeling good and scoring goals so hopefully that continues."

  11. 'We had the better chances'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton's Lewis Dunk, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought after the first 15 minutes we got a grip on the game and we were the better side. Frustrating, but they are a good team.

"Against sides like this if you are not clinical they will get on top of you. I thought we were the better team, pinned them back. We had the better chances but unfortunately we lost."

How are things under the new manager? "It is early days, we are eager to learn off him and get his style of play. You will see improvement over time. We are enjoying our time under the gaffer.

"It is a similar style [to Graham Potter's] and it showed today. They are different people with different ideas but there is a similarity to them.

"We go again Friday and we will be ready for it."

  12. 'We had to perform for Gian Piero'

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's Ryan Sessegnon speaking to Sky Sports: "We 100 per cent knew we had to perform today and that was because of Gian Piero.

"It's a difficult place to come, you saw their performance at Liverpool and it was good for us to come here, keep a clean sheet and get a win. We had to dig deep."

    Brighton 0-1 Tottenham

It's not been pretty by any stretch of the imagination but this is heading towards a very Conte-like Tottenham victory unless Brighton can conjure up something in the final 60 seconds.
