Chiefs come from 10 points down to beat 49ers and win Super Bowl 54 - reaction

The party will be going on long into the night in Kansas City after the team claimed it's first Super Bowl success in half a century.

And it was a popular victory for many observers, including basketball legend LeBron James, as 61-year-old Andy Reid claimed his first Super Bowl win as a head coach after 28 years coaching in the NFL.

But it was an historic night for the Hispanic community as Shakira and Jennifer Lopez put on a thrilling half-time show.

This is the first time the 49ers have reached the Super Bowl since losing to the Ravens and their wait for a first Super Bowl win since 1995 will continue.

Their fans will remain faithful though.

Patrick Mahomes had just watched Joe Flacco say "I'm going to Disney World" after helping the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 47.

But the tradition dates back to 1987, when Phil Simms first uttered the phrase after the New York Giants beat the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 21.

So this is why Patrick Mahomes mentioned Disney World in one of his post-match interviews.

Patrick Mahomes won the game's MVP but Damien Williams also wrote himself into club folklore with his two late touchdowns swinging Super Bowl 54 in the Chiefs' favour.

It was a fantastic game, fantastic performances from both teams, San Francisco fought back but Patrick Mahomes...oh my goodness.

How was that for you Chiefs fans?

I had to pick my top five Super Bowls of all time this week and this one would be nudging into that.

The Super Bowl had a reputation like the FA Cup - good hype but then disappointing games at the end. But we started with it on the BBC in 2017 and there has only been one bad game in that time.

The Chiefs' celebrity fan David Koechner enjoyed that one.

Patrick Mahomes produced a staggering fourth-quarter performance to guide Kansas City Chiefs to their first Super Bowl win in 50 years as they came from 10 points behind to stun the San Francisco 49ers in Miami.

Quarterback Mahomes, 24, had endured a difficult evening under the pounding pressure of the 49ers and looked set to miss out on the big prize.

But then, with his side 20-10 down heading into the fourth quarter, last year's MVP found two superb throws on third down to continue a season of comebacks as the Chiefs scored 21 unanswered points in four minutes and 57 seconds to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Damien Williams' second touchdown of the final quarter put the gloss on the scoreline as the Chiefs capped their wonderful late rally before celebrating a famous win in emotional scenes.
