Hope you all enjoyed that as much as we did.

A week off to rest and then we will be up and running on Friday, 23 October for the first two practice sessions for the Portuguese Grand Prix.

Thank you as always for joining us and hopefully you'll be back with us for the next race weekend. Until next time, bye for now.

    Hamilton equals Schumacher's wins record

Debbie Rose: I started watching F1 at 17 due to Lewis Hamilton. It was amazing to see someone that looked like me in the sport. So happy for this momentous achievement and hopefully more to come.

Sherwin: That moment with Mick and Lewis was very touching. You can see what the history of F1 means to Lewis, and he is not going to be forgotten in the history of the sport for a very long time to come either.

  4. Where next?

This was race 11 of a much-rearranged season and it's Portugal next up.

This will be the first race in the country since 1996 and will be staged at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao - the first time that venue will have staged an F1 event.

  5. Hamilton equals Schumacher win record - read the report

    Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton equalled the all-time record for career Formula 1 victories by winning the Eifel Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver's win was the 91st of his career and he will surely break Michael Schumacher's record soon.

Hamilton extended his championship lead over team-mate Valtteri Bottas to 69 points after the Finn retired.

Behind Max Verstappen's Red Bull in second, Daniel Ricciardo scored Renault's first podium since returning to F1 as a constructor in 2016.

  6. 'We were in a great position to score points'

There was disappointment too for another Briton, George Russell.

His race ended when Kimi Raikkonen crashed into him, with the Finn getting a 10-second penalty for the infringement.

  7. 'My Sunday was chilled'

Lando Norris, whose race ended when his car was on fire and he then sat in a nearby sun-lounger, says on Instagram: "My Sunday was chilled. I see some people got podiums and stuff. Meh. Lol."

    Hamilton wins Eifel Grand Prix

Antony Short: Wow, what a moment for the GOAT Lewis Hamilton. 91 race wins and counting, where will the bar be left once he has gone.

Meda Stamper: So happy for Lewis Hamilton. Extraordinary persistence, talent, and grace. Well done. And a very touching gift from the Schumacher family. All lovely.

Ian Abrahams: Thinking that Hulkenberg ought to pop down and see Mr Horner and Mr Marko and offer to drive their car for free in Portugal.

Thomas Knights: Yet another awful weekend for Albon, when he is fighting for position and complaining about drivers defending their positions perfectly fairly, it just makes him look not up for the fight. Embarrassing.

  9. How Hamilton and Schumacher's F1 records compare

    Lewis Hamilton: Race starts - 261, race wins - 91, world titles - 6. Michael Schumacher: Race starts - 306, race wins - 91, world titles - 7.

Lewis Hamilton said after his win at the Nurburgring that he never imagined he would come close to matching Michael Schumacher's record.

Hamilton is now level with Schumacher on 91 race wins and will surely draw level with the former Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes driver on seven world titles.

There are very few stats left for Hamilton to chase. He now has 160 podium finishes compared with Schumacher's 155, 96 pole positions to the German's 68 and 155 front-row starts compared with his idol's 116.

The only category that Schumacher maintains his grip is 77 fastest laps, compared with Hamilton's 51. The Brit claimed his 91 wins in 13 years (from 2007-2020), while it took Schumacher 14 years (from 1992-2006).

  10. Post update

You've got to have some sympathy for Valtteri Bottas today as a mechanical issue left him as one of five to not finish.

  11. First points of the season for Grosjean

Romain Grosjean thought he had broken a finger earlier on in the race.

He ended up picking up the first two points of his season, meaning everyone has scored points apart from the Williams pair.

  14. Lead extended to 69 points

Lewis Hamilton started the day with a 44-point lead over Valtteri Bottas. Now it's 69 points.

Hamilton has just equalled one Michael Schumacher record of 91 wins and he will equal another one - of seven world titles - some time in the next two months.

  15. Post update

    Jack Nicholls

BBC Radio 5 Live F1 commentator

    It's super impressive, isn't it?

There's no doubt that he is one of the greatest drivers of all time.

One more race win and if he wins the championship he will statistically be the most successful driver in Formula 1 history.

OK, the arguments will come, but that is what the stats will say and it is difficult to argue with the stats, isn't it?

  16. 'It's getting harder, not easier'

Lewis Hamilton, speaking to Sky Sports, on his competition with Max Verstappen: "Red Bull have a great car and are continually impressive.

"It is going to be this close between us to the end of the season and into next. The closest racing will be between us two over the next 12 months."

On his record-breaking win: "91 wins - it never gets any easier, it's almost like it's getting harder than it was to get my first win in Montreal.

"It's more physically demanding, in a different way. It's more mentally demanding, in a different way. So this one has been just as hard, if not harder, than my first grand prix win."

  17. 'Tattoo will have a German flavour'

Daniel Ricciardo, who finished on the podium for the first time since 2018: "It's been a while. Honestly it feels like the first podium all over again.

"I think it's been over two years, the feeling is good, still fresh. So happy and it's great to see everyone. We've all waited a long time for this, so I think everyone is going to soak it up."

On Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul getting a tattoo: "It's real. It's going to happen! We'll have to do some thinking now. It's probably going to be something to do with me, but with a German flavour, as this is the place we did it."

  18. 'We finished second - where we belonged'

Second-placed Max Verstappen on the race: "Overall a good race. I just tried to follow Lewis. The pace was good and I just tried to do my own race.

"The Mercedes was just a little bit too fast for us but I managed to get that fastest lap for the extra point so I'm happy with that. We finished second, which was where we belonged."

On the safety car: "The track was very cold, tyres were very cold when you leave from the box. I didn't understand why the safety car was out for so long. It was pretty dangerous when the tyres were so cold."
