Barcelona coach Quique Setien talking to Movistar: "It’s a tremendously painful defeat. They scored more goals that they merited. We started pretty well but the power of the opponents, in many phases of the play, overran us.

"I’m not going to talk about what is needed at the club. I've been here for just a few months. If Gerard Pique says that it's time for big changes there’s going to be importance to his words. It’s time for us to review and take the decisions which are needed for the future.

"I think that right now it’s too soon to be talking about whether I stay at the club or not. The reality is that it doesn't depend on me. It's worth all of us working out what's important and considering a wide range of things which correspond to a defeat of this importance and which is so painful."

Bayern coach Hansi Flick: "We knew that if we put them under pressure, we would get chances. We have such quality and intensity in this team, now we need to recharge and focus on the next game, where we start again from zero.

"Muller deserves man of the match award, he was the one who controlled our pressing, but ultimately I have to pay compliments to my whole team for keeping up that intensity for 90 minutes.”

Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka speaking to Sky: "It’s difficult to put this into words so soon after the game. I think it will take a couple of days to process this result.

"We have so much confidence, but as we just said in the changing room we've taken the first of three steps."

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique speaking to Spain's Movistar: "I'm in pain. We all are. We can't compete like that. It's very, very tough to take. Nothing more is worth saying. The club needs changes. Not just the players, I don't want to point out anyone.

"But football is a sport where change is constantly required. We must change the dynamic we are on because I believe we have just hit bottom. We have to look around, we have to trust that people will do the right things for the club.

Ash Williams: The Liverpool comeback was special. They were written off because of the 1st leg. No one expected Barca to get thrashed this bad in one game.

Quique Setien was fourth choice. Nobody was fighting for the manager today, he had no authority. This was his third game in the Champions League ever. But it was not his fault he was chosen and it is not fully his fault what is happening [at the club].

Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Muller on BT Sport: "It's tough to explain. I think in this moment our team is in incredible shape.

"Thanks for the man of match trophy - maybe we have 12 to 15 players who deserve it. We worked so hard and have this intensity. It's tough to beat us. It was so much fun today.

"For our style of players it doesn't matter about the names of players we are facing. When someone presses and dribbles, it's not a problem. Then we catch the ball and have so much talent in the offensive line.

"We feel good, but now we have to be quiet and regenerate.

It is the consequence of many years of decay. Nobody has been intelligent enough to identify what is happening.

It's embarrassing. Barcelona changed football. That heritage has been thrown in the bin.

Barcelona is so political and the players run the show.

Maybe it was the 7-1 defeat for Brazil in 2014?
