Mongolia's former president, Nambar Enkhbayar, has been detained in a police raid in connection with a corruption investigation, reports say.

Local media in the capital, Ulan Bator, say scores of police stormed a house where Mr Enkhbayar was staying.

The police said Mr Enkhbayar had failed repeatedly to turn up for questioning; his supporters said the arrest violated the former president's immunity.

He was Mongolia's prime minister and then president for almost 10 years.

Now an opposition politician, Mr Enkhbayar came to power in 2000 as prime minister and was president of Mongolia from 2005 to 2009.

His supporters have said the arrest violates the former president's immunity and was politically motivated, the Associated Press news agency reports.
