All rise! Judge Rinder announced for Strictly 2016!

Order! Order! Strictly is in session, and Judge Robert Rinder is taking to the floor!

The announcement was made by Judge Rinder himself on Scott Mills’ show on Radio 1 earlier today. And while he’s normally on TV presiding over others, this time he’s the one being judged.

His ITV series, Judge Rinder, has run for over 280 episodes, establishing him as a household name thanks to his no-nonsense, straight-talking attitude. He’s gone on to front another series, Judge Rinder’s True Crime Stories, as well as a show on BBC Radio 5, while his book, “Rinder’s Rules: Make The Law Work For You!” was released in 2015.

Born in London in 1978, Robert Rinder attended an elite grammar school and developed a love of theatre. It was while studying at Manchester University that his theatrical leanings came to end, thanks to his good friend Benedict Cumberbatch: “I thought I’d done well, and then I saw him deliver exactly the same lines and it was so different.”

He changed lanes and focused on law. His legal career went from strength to strength, but in 2014 he took the leap into television.

And it seems the lure of performing goes beyond his TV courtroom – he becomes the 12th contestant to join the 2016 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
