Rethinking the universe?

A paper in Nature this week suggests that cosmic rays are not at all like what we thought they were like.

At the same time, another paper in the Journal of Astrophysics shows that dark matter is not where it should be - and so probably is not anything like we thought it was either.

In the pioneering field of astrophysics, are there any certainties or will our theories constantly be challenged?

Professor John Butterworth, professor of Physics at UCL and has worked on the Large Hadron Collider at Cern, explains.
