#RollingStones50 - help build the Ultimate Rolling Stones Playlist
This July at 6 Music we’re dedicating a month of shows to celebrate 50 years of the world’s definitive rock 'n' roll bands; The Rolling Stones.
A young Mick and Keith became friends in Dartford at the turn of the ‘60s, and bonded over their growing infatuation with the blues. Two of their first three singles were covers while the other was written by Lennon and McCartney - the story famously going that Mick and Keith were locked in a kitchen by their manager, Andrew ‘Loog’ Oldham until they wrote a song themselves.
Now collectively nick-named as the ‘Glimmer Twins’, they are considered one of the greatest song writing partnerships of all time selling 200 million albums over five decades, with a couple of line-up adjustments and a fair few tour anecdotes which they are about to add to with another world tour next year – which might, just might, take in a certain festival on Worthy Farm in June.
So, turn on that hip swagger and tune your air guitar to open D for we want you to help us make The Ultimate Rolling Stones Playlist - but the question is: where in the name of her satanic majesty do we start?
• Your favourite Stones tracks –the hits, the album tracks and the forgotten gems
• Some of their influences from early rhythm and blues such as Chuck Berry, Howlin Wolf or Bo Diddley
• Their contemporaries – The Beatles, The Who, Marianne Faithfull, and so on
• Bands they’ve influenced like Aerosmith, Primal Scream or (more recently) Yelawolf or Jack White
• Favourite covers of Stones tracks, such as Leon Russell’s epic version of Jumpin Jack Flash at the Concert for Bangladesh
Or whatever else you can think of.
Get in touch in all the usual ways – comment on this blog or our Facebook page, drag a track into our collaborative Stones playlist on Spotify, send us e-mail or Tweet us using #RollingStones50 and remember to tune into the show from 6pm on Sunday.

So many classics, Gimme Shelter, Under My Thumb, Paint it Black. I honestly don't think it's possible to pick one song from a 50 year collection. I do have favourites though, some of them being Play With Fire, Time is on My Side, Little Red Rooster, Love in Vain, You Got The Silver, Stray Cat Blues, Sweet Virginia, Shine A Light, Wild Horses, I Got The Blues, Far Away Eyes, We Had It All, Stealing My Heart...to be honest I don't think they've done a bad song! Even their covers are Rolling Stones classics. Being a fairly young fan (30 years young) they've taught me to search into their roots in blues and country which has led to me learning songs from great artists like Howlin Wolf ('Evil' - what a song!), Muddy Waters, Etta James, Chuck Berry and my growing love for country artists like Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson is a great new country artist following in these footsteps-his album 'The Guitar Song' is just fantastic.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed for a tour next year...if only they could be around for another 50 years!

This version surpasses the studio version, and it brings back great memories of when they opened with this song at the tiny, 1,500 seat Enmore Theatre in Sydney in 2003, when I was right down the front....I remember Keith walking out, turning to Charlie and saying "You ready, man"?" Charlie says "Yeah, Keef", and then Keith rips into the opening chords of "Rambler"...a sublime experience.

Bobby on sax, does it get any better? Midnight rambler and Flash highlight rock and roll and Just my imagination shows they can rock Mowtown. What a band! Can't wait to hear about the tour!
