Olympics swimming: Ye Shiwen wins second gold at London 2012

Chinese teenager Ye Shiwen won her second gold medal of London 2012 with victory in the 200m individual medley.

The 16-year-old, who claimed gold and a world record in the 400m medley, clocked two minutes 7.57 seconds for a new Olympic best.

Australia's Alicia Coutts won the silver medal in a time of 2:08.15, while Caitlin Leverenz, of the United States, got bronze in 2:08.95.

Great Britain's Hannah Miley finished seventh in the final, clocking 2:11.29.

Ye produced a stunning freestyle leg to shave 0.18 seconds off the Olympic record she set in Monday's semi-final.

She was leading at halfway, but on the final turn she had slipped to third before a fantastic freestyle saw her hold off the strong challenge of Coutts.

Stephanie Rice, the gold medallist in Beijing four years ago,, external was fourth, while world record holder Ariana Kukors was fifth.

Ye has been the subject of some controversy after a US coach described her record-breaking performance in Saturday's 400m individual medley as "disturbing".

However, she returned a negative drugs test following that race and British Olympics chief Lord Moynihan has since said she "deserves recognition for her talent".
