European Commission mulls perfume ingredient ban

The European Commission is to consider restricting 12 ingredients used in the production of perfume which it is thought can cause allergic reactions in users.

The recommendation, by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety, has been criticised by a number of major perfume manufacturers, who say the move could change the scent of their products.

The global perfume industry is worth more than $24bn (£15bn) a year.

John McManus reports.
