Record Store Day: DJ Carl Cox & Chuck D's vinyl passion

Vinyl sales have reached a 15 year high and April 19 is the 7th annual international Record Store Day, during which independently owned record stores celebrate music with artists by releasing limited edition recordings, and hold public events.

Globe-trotting DJ Carl Cox who had to pack his collection of 150,000 records when moving to Australia, remembers thinking "wow that's just awesome" as a child when he played his first record, Diana Ross Love Hangover, that he'd bought with his paper-round money.

Chuck D of Public Enemy said he likes the art work of the record sleeves, so much so, that he describes them as "sonic posters with the option of being played".

Soul singer Michael Kiwanuka compares vinyl to the high calibre experience of dining at a Michelin star restaurant for food lovers and “a romantic way” to listen to music.
