How Bloodhound supersonic car's hybrid engine works
The huge hybrid rocket which it is hoped will blast the Bloodhound Supersonic car to a new world land speed record in 2014 will be fired up for the first time in the UK on Wednesday.
The test of Bloodhound's rocket system will take place inside a tornado hanger at Newquay airport.
It is expected to be the day's loudest man-made noise, 25 times louder than a jumbo jet taking off, and burning at a temperature of 3000C.
Capable of producing 27,000lb of peak thrust, the 18in by 12ft rocket will be bolted to a stand so it cannot move.
Bloodhound's driver, Wing Commander Andy Green, showed BBC News how Bloodhound will use its rocket.
