Savile: Thompson 'not involved' in Newsnight decision

The BBC's former director general Mark Thompson has said he was not involved in any of the decisions concerning the Newsnight investigation into Jimmy Savile, while he was in charge of the corporation.

Mr Thompson's successor, George Entwistle, will appear in front of the Commons culture committee on Tuesday to answer questions over the dropped Newsnight investigation.

The Metropolitan Police have launched a criminal inquiry into the allegations against Savile. They have described the former BBC presenter and DJ, who died in October 2011 aged 84, as a predatory sex offender.
