  9. Badminton

They've done it! England's number four seeds Gabby Adcock and Lauren Smith need just the one opportunity to make sure, winning 21-13 17-21 21-18 in one hour and 14 minutes. That was a classic and worthy of being a medal match.

There are plenty of glum Scottish faces around the arena, none more so than the miserable expressions slapped across the chops of Imogen Bankier and Kirsty Gilmour. Even the Fratellis' feel-good anthem of Chelsea Dagger booming out cannot cheer them.

  10. Badminton

But the Scots a plucky pair, nicking two points back, before Lauren Smith smashes a winner from the front to leave England with two more match points...

  11. Badminton

There is a real grudge match taking place at the moment. Scotland pair Imogen Bankier and Kirsty Gilmour, unsurprisingly backed by huge vocal support, face England's Gabby Adcock and Lauren Smith.

They drew one game each to take the match to a decider - and it's been a thriller. Now Adcock and Smith are two points away from a place in the last 16.

  12. Badminton

Hundreds are packed into one Glasgow venue and ready to party as Wednesday comes to a close. No, they're not lurking around the dancefloor at legendary music venues Barrowlands or King Tut's. They're packed into the Emirates Arena as badminton becomes the new rock'n'roll....

I think tonight he was as happy with his gold medal as he was at London 2012. He's running well, jumping well but is mentally in the right place which is the most important thing."

Viorei Etko of Scotland with his silver medal

Adopted Scot Viorel Etko says he is the proudest man in Glasgow after delivering the host nation's first wrestling Commonwealth Games medal in 20 years with bronze in the 61kgs.

The 36-year-old was born in Moldova before leaving to pursue his athletic career first in Romania, then London in 1998, where he waited on tables and laboured on building sites before heading north of the border, eventually settling down to marry gymnast Laura Davies.

He said: "I am probably the proudest parent here, because I have my nine-year-old son Leon watching. I wanted to give him and all the other little kids a gift, all who are future Scottish athletes.

"I am fortunate to be the person who has done this. I thought I could make some history in Scottish wrestling."

Australia's head coach has been suspended for publicly criticising Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson.

Eric Hollingsworth accused Pearson, who starts the defence of her Commonwealth title on Thursday, of setting a bad example to her Australian team-mates.

"It was good to get a comprehensive win in terms of scoreline but I am disappointed with the sheer volume of errors.

"Saying that when you are playing against a lesser team you get more possession and you are more likely to make errors. However, we have to be more clinical. We need to ensure we are clinical across the 60 minutes."

The women's 200m has turned up late to the Commonwealth Games party like an unwanted guest sneaking through the back door. Newly-crowned 100m champion Blessing Okagbare cruises to victory in the opening heat.

Next up is England's Bianca Williams. And the 20-year-old puts in a good shift to join Okagbare in the semi-finals as a heat winner. She eases up but a time of 22.97 is still within two tenths of her lifetime best.

  48. Diving

England divers Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

England divers Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree are still recovering from the shock of their last-gasp diving gold.

The pair produced a superb final dive to snatch victory in the women's synchronised 3m springboard.

"I just can't believe it," Blagg, 17, says. "To do that dive and then see the scoreboard ranked first it was the best moment of my life. Just disbelief." Gallantree, 29, adds: "To do it in that situation, last dive, when it really mattered, and to do that to get the gold is just amazing."

  49. Athletics

    Men's 800m semi-final

"Ruby Harrold leads at the halfway stage of the second sub-division of the women's all-around final and to celebrate Kaiser Chiefs' Ruby blasts out of the sound system. So the music choice isn't on a random shuffle? It's all deliberate? Scotland's Emma White has the overall lead, but is likely to be overtaken by those competing in the second half of the draw. "The crowd helped me so much," says White. "It's amazing. I have no words to say."

  51. Athletics

    Men's 800m semi-final

Kenya's David Rudisha tells BBC Sport after reaching the 800m final: "Today it was tough because the semi-finals you have to approach with caution so I ran from the front and controlled the race. I feel my body is responding well and I'm feeling better which is pleasing. I am expecting another good race in the final, there are some really tough guys in there."

  57. Athletics

    Men's 800m semi-final

    David Katoatau

"Kiribati, a group of islands in Pacific Ocean, only has a population of little over 100,000 but 30-year-old David Katoatau, who carried their flag at the opening ceremony, currently stands fourth after the snatch in 105kg Group A.

  66. Athletics

    Men's 400m final

    Michael Johnson

BBC Sport athletics expert & 400m world record holder

"The race wasn't as fast as it looked but Kirani James took real charge of things. It was a great effort from Wayde van Niekerek who ran the 200m prelims this morning. Maybe if he hadn't have done that he could have got that bit closer to James and pushed him all the way to the line.

"As for Martyn Rooney, he never got in the race. You have to make the decision whether you compete with other athletes when you see them going away from you or stick with your own race. Martyn thought that they were going too fast and would come back to him, but that was a mistake. Maybe he should've adjusted."

  67. Medal Ceremony

    Men's long jump

The Glasgow 2014 organisers are rattling through these medal ceremonies quicker than it takes Kirani James to hurtle around the track. 73. Athletics

    Men's 400m final

"A really brave effort from Wayde van Niekerk who gave Kirani James a run for his money but the man from Grenada answered all the questions he was asked. He's on top of the world again. That was harder than he expected but he's got the gold. It's a shame for Martyn Rooney who just wasn't able to get into the race. He tried to stay patient and it didn't go for him."

For a moment it looks like Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa could pip him down the straight. No. James finds another burst to cross in 44.24, smashing a new Games record in the process.

"England's Martyn Rooney has shown a great attitude and looks in great form. He came through the preliminary and the semi-finals with good performances. However, I don't think he can beat Kirani James unless the Grenadian makes a big mistake.

"I like Martyn's beard as well! It suits him and I think it goes with his attitude. Could the beard slow him down?! I don't think so. Ed Moses had a beard for a while and it didn't affect him!"

He could join an elite club of British athletes that hold every title in the world and that's a special achievement if he can do it. Only the likes of Sally Gunnell, Linford Christie and Daley Thompson have that. Well done Greg Rutherford."

  84. Gold Medal

Only one man now can deny Greg Rutherford the gold medal as the long jump reaches its conclusion. South Africa's Zarck Visser needs 8.20m or further - no, he's well short! Rutherford, or the Ginger Wizard as he's known, collapses to his knees on the track in celebration.

The Olympic champion is the new Commonwealth champion!

  85. Bronze Medal

    Jessica Taylor (England) - women's heptathlon 800m

Move over Ennis-Hill and Johnson-Thompson. She might not have a double-barrelled surname, but England's Jessica Taylor looks to have a bronze Commonwealth medal. Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree of England

Amazing scenes over in the pool as England's Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree produce something special in their final dive to snatch women's synchronised 3m springboard gold! They had not led in the previous four rounds but a 72.54 in round five puts them ahead of Canada as they finished on 300.24, just under 5.00 ahead.

Both look stunned when they climb out of the water and who can blame them? Stunning finish.

That leaves Canada's Brianne Thiesen-Eaton as the champion elect. She basically needs to stroll around the track twice in a half-decent time to grab the gold. They're off.

    Karen Pickering

BBC Sport swimming & diving expert on Radio 5 live

"They don't do the 1m springboard at the Olympics so it's great for the divers who specialise in this event. It's a strange event because you have to get as high as you can because there's not much time, or space, to get much action in before you hit the water. When they do it well it is very impressive."

  151. Wrestling

    Neil Johnston

    BBC Sport in Glasgow

"Some thought being put into the music inside the wrestling arena at the SECC precinct. Canada's Braxton Rei Stone wins her 58kg bronze medal match with Cameroon's Edwige Ngono Eyia and the voice of Canadian signer Bryan Adams comes roaring through the speakers.

    Odunayo Adekuoroye

"Rather predictably, Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' accompanies the medal ceremony which sees Nigeria's Odunayo Adekuoroye (pictured above) collect, yep, gold for winning the freestyle 53kg gold match.

"Will we hear the music of former Wigan band The Verve if Wigan and Leigh Wrestling Club's Sarah Grundy wins freestyle 58kg bronze?

"Sadly we will never know what they would have played if she had triumphed. Sarah misses out to New Zealand's Tayla Ford and leaves the arena with a white towel draped over her head."

  152. Boxing

    Women's lightweight

And then there was one. Northern Ireland's Alanna Audley-Murphy is the last Home Nation hope still standing in the women's lightweight. The former World Championship quarter-finalist is guaranteed a bronze after beating Valerian Spicer, who is from the tiny Caribbean island of Dominica.

Wales' Charlene Jones loses to Laishram Devi of India, following England's Natasha Jonas - one of the pre-Games favourites - who sneaked out of the exit door on Tuesday.

Plenty of pride at stake as Scotland and Northern Ireland go toe-to-toe for fourth place in Pool A. So far it is advantage Scotland. They lead 21-18 at the halfway stage, but there's little to choose between the sides in truth.

    Mixed doubles third round

Mixed fortunes for the Home Nations in the mixed doubles. Not for England mind - as Sam Walker and Karina Le Fevre, Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho, Danny Reed and Kelly Sibley, plus husband-and-wife team Paul Drinkhall and Joanna Drinkhall, all win to move into the last 16.

But there are defeats for the Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland pairings, which leaves only England left in the competition.

  159. Gold Medal

Aminat Adeniyi (Nigeria) - women's 58kg freestyle wrestling

It is another gold in wrestling for Nigeria as Aminat Adeniyi beats Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik in the women's 58kg freestyle final.

That follows on from Odunayo Adekuroye's victory in women's 53kg freestyle a little earlier. The key to their success? Singing, it would seem. Both walked around the arena singing a Christian song at the top of their voices during their warm up routine and it appears to have done the trick.

  160. Gymnastics

    Men's all-around final

    Max Whitlock

England's Max Whitlock after winning gold in the men's all-around: "I wasn't paying much attention to the scores, I wanted to have clean routines and to have that comfortable margin at the end felt really good.

"I can't actually explain it, it's a crazy thing. Even before the routine I was so nervous and to stick the landing (on high bar, the final apparatus) like that was amazing."

On his transition to an all-around gymnast: "Since London 2012 all-around has been a massive target so to pull this off is massive for me. It's a big marker for the world championships; experience-wise and confidence-wise it gives me a big push."

  161. Netball

    Scotland 11-9 Northern Ireland

Sounds like a school disco inside the SECC at the interval. All it needs is cheap pop and crisps as an overly-enthusiastic MC encourages the crowd, which is quite young admittedly, to get to their feet and do the Mexican Wave. Great scenes.

Go on, admit it. You thought netball was still only played by schoolgirls wearing pleated skirts and baggy bibs, didn't you? Wrong. It is fast and furious and even though Scotland and Northern Ireland have nothing to play for, you wouldn't guess it by watching the action in the SECC.

"Shannon lists England diving star Daley as her hero, and in the mixed zone, she tells me: 'A few of my friends in the Games village have met him, but I've been locked away in competition. Maybe I'll get a chance to see him now."

  178. Wrestling

"There are some interesting stories among the home nation wrestlers competing for medals in the SECC precinct.

"Viorel Etko, who was born in Moldova, arrived in Britain as an asylum-seeker 16 years ago but will have the support of the home crowd behind him as he looks to earn Scotland a bronze on the mat.

"Then there's the 26-year-old from Bristol who has had a bus named after him - as well as four years free travel - in recognition of being selected by England for the Commonwealth Games. Will Leon Rattigan, pictured here in the red prove he has the drive to succeed?

  180. Hockey

"Absolutely fabulous from Daniel Keatings to win silver, the crowd were willing him on and he peaked every move, he did every move to its maximum.

"Nile Wilson is a real natural gymnast, that step backwards on his dismount from the high bar was probably the one single error we have seen from him today. He wins bronze and is happy with a medal."

  183. Gold medal

Max Whitlock (England) - Men's all around gymnastics

    Max Whitlock

The champion-elect Max Whitlock steps up and finishes with an impeccable high bar routine. He could have tried to scale back the difficulty and play it safe with a sizeable lead. He didn't. He went out and delivered another world class performance.

The judges respond accordingly. They hand out 15.100 for a total of 90.631.

  184. Gymnastics

Nope, not quite good enough for Nile Wilson to overtake Daniel Keatings. Wilson's routine is rewarded with a mark of 14.766. Exactly the same score as Keatings.

  185. Gymnastics

Nile Wilson's routine is technical, tricky and, judging by his punch of the air afterwards, he thinks it is good enough for an upgrade to silver.

He needs 15.100 from the judges. Will they oblige? Or will that slight step back on dismount cost him?

  186. Gymnastics

Spotless! Daniel Keatings has produced a sparkling performance on the high bar, shouting with delight as he brings it home with a rock-solid dismount.

The judges assess his efforts as worth 14.766

He was congratulated as he come back to the sidelines by England's Nile Wilson, who will now try and better it and snatch silver from the Scot. He needs 15.100 to take second.

  187. Boxing

  189. Boxing

All over and England's Nicola Adams secures her place in the medal stage of the Commonwealth Games. A bronze medal is guaranteed for the Leeds boxer, but she will fancy herself to go the distance in the flyweight division after producing something of a boxing masterclass against Erandi de Silva.

Standing ovation from the crowd at the SECC and Adams leaps in delight before punching the air.

  190. Athletics

    BBC Sport in Glasgow

    Sally Pearson

A review is under way into comments by Athletics Australia chief Eric Hollingsworth in which he labels Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson a "bad example" to the team.

Pearson, who begins her Commonwealth defence on Thursday, was fined for choosing to race in London this month instead of attending the team camp in Gateshead. The 27-year-old opted to compete at the Anniversary Games in the capital to gain race fitness having recently returned from a hamstring injury.

"What's lost here is she's the team captain and there's a reasonable expectation she'd be in the camp ahead of something as major as the Commonwealth Games," Hollingsworth said in a statement.

"Her no-show sets a bad example to the entire national team."

Australia's Commonwealth Games team manager Diane Gallagher, chef de mission Steve Moneghetti and Athletics Australia are meeting right now.

  191. Boxing

No trip to the canvas for Erandi de Silva in the second or third rounds but it is still a dominant display by Nicola Adams as the judges score both in the England boxer's favour. De Silva is firmly on the back foot heading into the fourth.

  192. Gymnastics

Scotland's Daniel Purvis lands a double-twisting dismount on the high bar, but it is not going to be enough to claw him back into the medal spots.

He gives the crowd a downbeat wave as he ends his competition with a 13.466 score for a total of 84.865. He has clocked north of 90 in the past.

  193. Badminton

Imagine gearing up for four years and then spending just 26 minutes out on court in your opening match. That's what happened to England's top seeds Chris and Gabby Adcock earlier - and they were delighted.

Because the husband-and-wife pairing, who received a first-round bye, needed less than half an hour to clinch a 21-12 21-13 win over Northern Ireland's Tony Murphy and Alannah Stephenson.

This is his first year in the senior ranks and I think it is a given he will come away with at least a bronze."

  200. Gymnastics

England's Nile Wilson is the junior world champion on the high bar and qualified better than Dan Keatings on that piece of kit.

England's Nile Wilson's routine is less ambitious than Dan Keatings' but it is more slickly executed.

An age-old dilemma for the judges. How do they weigh Wilson's effort? They slap a 15.433 on it and that make the battle for silver squeaky tight with one apparatus to go.

    Standings after five apparatus:

    1. M Whitlock (Eng) 75.531

    2. D Keatings (Sco) 73.532

    3. N Wilson (Eng) 73.199

  203. Diving

The pair have not competed together before but Leeds-based Denny has recently spent time training with 20-year-old Daley in London.

Daley, reigning Commonwealth champion in the event, had struggled to find a suitable synchronised partner since the retirement of Pete Waterfield last year.

  204. Gymnastics

Daniel Keatings muddled through the parallel bars rather than excelling like he normally does. He looks disappointed on dismount. A score of 14.766 when he is capable of touching up towards 16 won't have improved his mood.

  205. Squash

England's Alison Waters and Peter Barker beat Tesni Evans and Peter Creed from Wales in the Mixed Doubles Pool D match 11-9 10-11 11-5. The victory puts the English pair clear at the top of their pool with two wins out of two.

  206. Gymnastics

    Craig Heap

BBC Sport gymnastics expert and two-time CWG champion

"Dan Keatings is very good on the bars and scored well in qualification, but I don't think it will be enough to challenge Max Whitlock. I think it's safe to say Max will pick up the gold today. But there's a good battle on for silver with Nile Wilson."

  207. Gymnastics

Right, what can Scotland's Daniel Keatings pull out on the parallel bars. Can he keep at least a little pressure on leader Max Whitlock heading into the final piece of apparatus? And keep himself out of the range of Nile Wilson behind him?

  208. Gymnastics

    Aimee Lewis

    BBC Sport in Glasgow

"When the gymnasts are performing it's a bit like a cricket match: polite applause as they approach the apparatus, followed by silence and, then, slightly louder cheers, as if a cover drive has gone for four, when they dismount. That's unless you're a Scottish gymnast. The rules change if you're in blue and white. If you're Dan Keatings or Dan Purvis it's as if you've smashed 36 in one over after every twist and twirl."

  209. Gymnastics

Scotland's Daniel Purvis is attempting to leapfrog England's Nile Wilson to move into third. He may have to rely on his performance in the high bar because a score of 14.200 on the parallel bars leaves him vulnerable to slipping further behind.

Wilson is the last man on the parallel bars.

  210. Table tennis

She has had to battle through several matches already at Glasgow, but Wales' Megan Phillips finally books her spot in the second round of the women's singles. A hard-fought 4-3 win over Guyana teenager Chelsea Edghill sticks her into the last 32, where she will face Ye Lin of Singapore later on.

Welsh number one Charlotte Carey and Amanda Mogey of Northern Ireland also take to the ping-pong table at 17:40 BST.

    Barry McGuigan

"Michaela Walsh is going to be tough to beat in the semi-finals after coming through her quarter. The only person out there who can beat her is Nicola Adams. It's all shaping up for a gold medal fight with her. But I'm really delighted that Michaela's guaranteed a medal for Northern Ireland because she works so hard."

  212. Boxing

Historic moment for Michaela Walsh as she ensures she will become the first Northern Ireland female to secure a Commonwealth Games boxing medal after beating Jamaica's Sarah Joy Rae to book her place in the flyweight semi-final.

That guarantees a bronze medal at the very least, but Walsh has her eye on going even further, telling BBC Sport: "I feel strong in the weight and I am flying at the moment."

Walsh could meet Olympic champion Nicola Adams in the final and has already described the Englishwoman as "beatable".

  213. Gymnastics

He has put in a good show so far, finishing in the top six in the previous four disciplines, but Wales' Clinton Purnell has had a bit of an shocker there in the parallel bars.

He scores 12.900 and that might well cost him a couple of places in the overall standings.

  217. Gymnastics

"Go on Max," says a voice, possibly belonging to a coach, off camera.

All-around leader Max Whitlock looks like someone could shout it down his ear via a megaphone and he would be too focused to flinch.

He pulls himself up onto the parallel bars and delivers a near-faultless performance. 14.966 say the judges and that all but guarantees gold for the Englishman.

  218. Gymnastics

"Daniel Purvis did a great vault, he had a slight step to the side but has been scoring highly and parallel bars, up next, is a really strong piece for him. Daniel Keatings has gone superbly well in this competition and the crowd will be giving him even more support.

Do you reckon as a superstar sportsman you now have to pose for selfies more than you sign autographs nowadays? Do the grin muscles wear out quicker than the scribbling ones? Do some fans push their luck and want both?

  222. Gymnastics

    Christine Still

BBC Sport gymnastics expert and veteran coach

"You can definitely tell these guys are on their third day of competition. Scotland's Daniel Purvis, performing a vault that would have been easy for him on day one, takes a big step back here. They are still performing very well though."

  223. Gymnastics

Scotland's Daniel Keatings, second overall after three apparatus, is the last man to go on the vault and he plays it relatively safe with a double twist, rather than go for something worth more points but more risky.

He lands it for a score of 14.333, the fifth best of his group of gymnasts, and he has a strong parallel bars routine to come.

It will have to be very strong indeed to overhaul Max Whitlock though.

England look set to play New Zealand in the last four on Friday. The Kiwis are 3-0 up at half-time in their fourth and final pool game against Canada. You can watch that one on the BBC Sport website.

  228. Gymnastics

England's Nile Wilson, 18 years old but without a hint of nerves, comes out and posts a score of 14.700 on the vault. Get used to the name, he is going to be a key figure in continuing the golden age of gymnastics.

England's Max Whitlock, leading the overall standings, puts in a big hop on landing and posts a score of 14.500.

  229. Gymnastics

Next up for the leading men in the all around final is the vault.

Nile Wilson of England is the first man to take the stage.

This is the piece of apparatus this will forever be associated in American minds with Kerry Strug, who vaulted with an injured ankle to apparently secure team gold for the hosts ahead of the Russians at Atlanta 1996.

That was the legend. As Barry Davies explains, the truth was a little less Hollywood.

  230. Gymnastics

    Beth Tweddle

    BBC Sport gymnastics expert

"To be in that top space in the all-around you need have a great score on every piece. Max Whitlock might not have been performing moves of the highest difficulty but there is nothing for judges to deduct points from in the execution."

  231. Badminton

    Mixed doubles

Fast and furious is this badminton lark. Not only in the speed of the shuttlecock darting around, but also because England's pairs are flying through their matches. Second pair Chris Langridge and Heather Olver breeze past Kenya's Patrick Mbogo and Mercy Joseph with a quickfire 2-0 (21-7 21-4) victory. Now they join team-mates Chris and Gabby Adcock in the 16.

  233. Gymnastics

It is funny how different sports have different cultures.

While some sprinters bellow and eyeball their rivals, the gymnasts are a much more cordial bunch, giving the man coming off the apparatus high fives and congratulations regardless of nationality.

Each group of gymnasts are kind of on tour together, upping sticks to wander onto the next discipline when they have all had a go.

It is his weakest apparatus, but that is a more-than-solid showing. In fact it increases his lead.

The judges hand him a score of 14.733, better than those of his closest rivals Dan Keatings of Scotland and fellow Englishman Nile Wilson.

    Standings after three apparatus:

    Mixed doubles

English pair Chris and Gabby Adcock have gold on their fingers after getting married last year - now they want Commonwealth gold around their necks. The couple are among the favourites in Glasgow and start their bid in fine style. They earn a 2-0 win (21-12 21-13) against Northern Ireland's Tony Murphy and Alannah Stephenson to move into the last 16.

  240. Gymnastics

So, just to sum up the standings in the men's individual gymnastics after the opening two rounds ... England's Max Whitlock (31.332) leads from Scotland's Daniel Keatings (30.333), with England's Nile Wilson (28.433) third. Onto the rings, which requires real strength - one to separate the men from the boys.

Reaction - Scotland women lose to England

    Alex Danson of England celebrates

Scotland's players and staff have been coming to terms with the 2-1 defeat by England that sees them miss out on a semi-final place, and leaves their future funding in doubt.

Captain Linda Clement: "To be honest, it's not at the top of my mind at the moment. The funding issue is something that is likely to be dealt with behind the scenes. It's a disappointment we couldn't win today."

Coach Gordon Shepherd said: "I recognise we started a bit slowly in the game and they (England) dominated the first half, but we were much stronger in the second half of the match. I am really proud of my players, they have been absolutely fantastic."

    Steve Cram

    BBC Sport athletics commentator

Three-time Commonwealth gold medallist Cram is also the coach of England's Laura Weightman, who won silver in the women's 1500m on Tuesday.

"We are delighted, for Laura this has been a lot of hard work. Her family was down with a lot of friends, so there was a lot of chat until late last night but she's been out for a run already and we are starting to turn our thoughts towards Zurich and the European Championships.

"Whenever you come into a championship the plan is really just to be ready for whatever happens. We expected the two Kenyan girls to dominate but Laura is great at not being fearful.

    Laura Weightman

"You always talk about that last 500m and in a slower-run race you have to go to the font if the big names don't want to. You have to make a lot of quick decisions and Laura did that really well - she stayed tough on the home straight and got herself a silver medal. There is a lot more to come from her."

  243. Gymnastics

    Beth Tweddle

  247. Gymnastics

Scotland's Frank Baines was the first gymnast in the leading group to take to the pommel horse but it did not go well. His bid for a medal went out the door as he lost his grip and slipped off.

He looks disgusted with himself but he's a young lad and he'll learn from it. "He's a very stylish gymnast with great technique," says the BBC's Christine Still.

  248. Squash

Is Usain Bolt happy at Glasgow 2014? The Times newspaper claim he said he isn't and stand by their story. Bolt has hit back and was all smiles at the netball, responding with "awesome" when asked by reporters what he thought of the Games.

Here is what Jamaica's press attaché, Laurel Smith, told BBC Sport: "Usain is just frustrated that he can't roam about, but it was like that at London 2012. He basically goes to training and comes back.

"You can only play so many video games in your room. He's a free spirit, but it requires security organisation when he wants to roam.

"He even gets a bagman [an assistant] to get his food from the canteen because it would create too much of a stir if he was there. But one thing is for sure, he is enjoying himself in Glasgow."

Max Whitlock of England justifies his status as pre-event favourite as he clocks up 15.466 with a floor routine that could have been even better without a final half-stumble forward on landing.

"I think the experience will prove too much to the young challengers today."

  264. Gymnastics

Scotland's Daniel Purvis is the first Scottish man in action in the individual all-around final. He and fellow Scots Daniel Keatings and Frank Baines, along with English favourite and European junior champion Nile Wilson, all start on the floor.

Vickie Moore: "Even with a smaller budget than London 2012 I'm sure all who have actually experienced the buzz in Glasgow will agree what a fabulous and well organised event this has been."

Lesney Fulcher: "I believe Usain Bolt not the press. You cannot compare the Olympics with the Commonwealth Games, it would be unfair on both. "Usain Bolt, who has denied claims he made disparaging comments about the Commonwealth Games, has just turned up with other members of the Jamaican Games squad to cheer on the 'Sunshine Girls'.

"Bolt is all smiles as he appears during the second quarter of the match. He looks relaxed and signs autographs for fans during the interval, and also smiles and poses for photographs for fans sitting around him.

"However, the media are quickly ushered away when they attempt to approach the sprinter."

It is not the first time that Eaton has been on the Beeb. The American told us back at the World Championships last year about the time his wife nearly speared him in the face with a javelin, accidentally I should add, and of his man-love for Daley Thompson's moustache.

He also revealed that his other half watches video of Jessica Ennis-Hill online to try and mimic her technique.

"I was provisionally selected for the European Championships but I don't think I'll make the squad now. I'm not fit enough really, it has been frustrating but I'm happy to have given it a shot and the support I have had has been fantastic, so thank you."

"He is lacking the running at the moment but that was a heroic performance."

  290. Diving

The first diving final, with England's Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow fourth on the start list, has been held up due to a scoreboard glitch.

Couch and Barrow are the most successful pairing in British women's diving and finished fifth at the London Olympics.

According to the experts, the destination of the medals is too close to call.

    Malaysia 0-0 Wales

Talking of tight professional outfits, Malaysia are in action at the National Hockey Centre and most of their team are wearing bright blue thermal tights and long-sleeved tops beneath their bright blue kit.

They look a little like Morph's jazzier sidekick from afar.

Wales are their opposition and are looking for their first goal after defeats by England, Australia and Scotland.

They haven't found it yet. Still 0-0.

    Player reaction

England women's hockey player Alex Danson, speaking to BBC One: "It was always going to be a tight match, Scotland are a very tight, professional outfit. I'm sure it was delightful to watch but it was a really tough match to be playing. We are over the moon to be through to the semi-final."

    Alex Danson of England

On hearing footballer Rio Ferdinand's praise for her opening goal: "That really did make me laugh, it's fantastic to generate support. That is our game - fast, athletic, skilful and brilliant to watch. To have the chance to showcase that at a venue like this is wonderful."

Earlier this morning England beat Scotland 2-1 to set up a semi-final match against New Zealand on Friday.

Dame Kelly Holmes, double Olympic gold medallist and president of Commonwealth Games England, speaking to BBC One:

"Performing at the Commonwealth Games put me in good stead as an athlete. For the brand new stars coming through this is that breakthrough event you want leading up to the Olympics in Rio in 2016.

"This is the only other multi-sport event outside the Olympics, and for some sports like lawn bowls and squash this is their Olympics. The energy and atmosphere here is something you don't feel at an individual world championships.

"Scotland is so passionate about sport and that has really been brought to the fore. All the venues have been brilliant and well attended, the volunteers have been engaging and the police and military involved in organising have been great too."

Something is up with Jamaica's Jason Livermore.

He was getting on the nerves of England's James Ellington in the call room and now he gives a rather enigmatic post-race interview to BBC Radio 5 live's Sonja McLauglin.

Asked what he is making of the life in the athletes' village and his general well-being he replies: "Well it can be better - things can be a little bit better for us. Can be better in a lot of sense. We have to just enjoy and give god thanks."

    The interview continues:

Sonja: What is it you are not happy with Jason?

    Jason: I can't say. I can't say.

Sonja: Can't say or won't say?

    Jason: I won't say. I won't say.

    Intriguing.

    Men's 200m first round

Chris Clarke joins England team-mates James Ellington and Danny Talbot in the semi-finals of the men's 200m.

Clarke finished second to Jamaican champion Rasheed Dwyer in their heat.

Northern Ireland's Leon Reid is waiting to see whether his 20.97 is good enough for a fastest loser place.

  308. Athletics

    Colin Jackson

Two-time CWG champion and BBC Sport athletics pundit

"That was a nice competitive run by James Ellington, it is hard to run so early, but he got through very well indeed. He will have watched Jamaica's Jason Livermore in 100m, and he knows his pedigree.

"To have stayed up there, with a nice tempo, while saving as much energy as possible for the semi-final is great, and the most important thing is qualification.

"But I'd like him to have just snuck a victory there, it would have made his draw in the semi final just that bit easier."

  309. Athletics

    Shara Proctor of England

England's Shara Proctor is off her best but still qualifies for the women's long jump final after a leap of 6.51m. She will be joined in the final by team-mates Jazmin Sawyers and Lorraine Ugen.

  310. Athletics

England 200m runner James Ellington, speaking to BBC One: "That clown on the outside, the Jamaican guy, he spurred me on because he was making noise in the call room. He shouldn't do that, it just makes me run faster. As long as he does that in the semi-final too though you know what I mean?"

Jamaica"s Jason Livermore and England"s James Ellington

"That was quite easy, I was a bit nervous because I was up at 06:55 and I hate early mornings. Hopefully tomorrow, after a good night's sleep, I can go a bit quicker in the semi-final."

  311. Athletics

As much as we like the friendly side of the Commonwealths, it is nice to have a side order of beef.

England's James Ellington qualifies for the 200m semi-finals with ease, finishing side-by-side with Jamaica's Jason Livermore in heat seven and well clear of the rest of the field.

There were a few pointed looks from Ellington as he kept pace with Livermore up the home straight though, letting his mohawked rival that he was matching him with some ease.

It all becomes clear in the post-race interview...

Well, his manager has in turn been pretty uncomplimentary about those reports.

Wales swimmers Jazz Carlin and Georgia Davies, speaking to BBC One after their medal-winning performances in the pool:

    Jazz Carlin

Carlin: "The past 48 hours have been a whirlwind, it's been incredible. The 800m freestyle is a difficult race, there are lots of tactics and you don't want to move too soon or too late. I think I had a few people worried but I managed to time it right.

"Georgia and I have trained together for seven years, to have shared this moment together and come away with two medals each, we couldn't have asked for more."

Davies: "With the 50m race I don't have to think about tactics, it's just go from the start. In Delhi in 2010 I got a bronze and was fifth or sixth in the 100m. But I was feeling so motivated after watching Jazz."

Carlin, 23, won gold in the 800m freestyle on Monday before adding silver in the 400m freestyle on Tuesday. Davies, also 23, won gold in the 50m backstroke on Tuesday to follow silver in Saturday's 100m backstroke.

"It's hard to pick out just one performance. To win team gold, everyone needs to play their part. But Claudia Fragapane was amazing as England won the women's team gold, she had so much pressure on her but she raises her game in front of a big crowd.

    England men's gymnastics team

"There is such strength and depth within the British team.
