Born in London to a Blue Peter presenter mother and film director father, Sophie Ellis Bextor was probably always destined for a career in showbiz.
But before she became the fashionista Queen of pop, Bextor started off as the singer in a little known indie band called The Audience. The band achieved minor success with a series of new-wave style records in the late 90s, before disbanding and making way for Bextor’s solo career.
Seeing in the new millenium in some style, Bextor achieved international fame in 2000 featuring on the hugely popular track “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)”, a collaboration with the Italian DJ Spiller. The track was an international hit, leading to a record deal with Polydor and the release of Read My Lips, an album that spawned four top 10 hits including the disco anthem “Murder on the Dancefloor”.
Since then Bextor has released five albums with her most recent, Wanderlust, released in 2014, achieving widespread critical admiration and commercial success.
