Gareth Bale should consider Real Madrid move - Davor Suker

Davor Suker believes that Wales and Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale should move to Real Madrid, if he is given the chance.

Ex-Real Madrid striker Suker is now president of the Croatian Football Federation, whose side face Wales in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

And Suker believes Wales' Bale would fit in at the Bernabeu.

"If he has the possibility to go to Madrid it would be his best move of his career," Suker told BBC Wales.

"So many clubs in the world have huge histories. Arsenal is a great club, Manchester United and Chelsea.

"For me Real Madrid is one of the best clubs in the world."

The current Spanish champions, who are coached by Jose Mourinho, are one of the clubs who have been linked with the 23-year-old Welshman.

Spurs have entered a partnership with Real Madrid in which will the two clubs will work together in respect of players, coaching and commercial relationships.

But the London club have denied the agreement allows Real Madrid to have first refusal on players such as Bale.

Bale is currently on international duty with Wales and scored both goals in Chris Coleman's side to scoop a dramatic 2-1 win over Scotland on Friday.

Next up for Coleman's side are unbeaten Croatia, a team Wales have never beaten at senior international level.

And Croatian Football Federation president Suker is fully aware of the threat posed by Bale.

"He's a very dangerous player and scored twice against Scotland and Bale can be a dangerous man in Tuesday night's game," added Suker, who also played for Arsenal and West Ham.

"He's a great football player and good for football to have great quality players. I wish him all the best but not on Tuesday night."

Croatia's squad includes a current Real Madrid player, Luka Modric, who up until the summer was a team-mate of Bale's at Tottenham.

Suker is proud Croatia's squad has players representing some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Modric at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich's Mario Mandzukic.

"He [Modric] played very well in the Premier League and of course he's part of one of the best clubs in the world," added Suker.

"We feel this in the stadiums and the training grounds.

"Croatian players are talented players, quality players and can play all around the world. More players at the big clubs is better for the national team.

"The premier objective of the national team is to go to [the World Cup in] Brazil."

    Modric is currently warming the bench at Madrid. Maybe Bale prefers actually playing. Also, and not being bitter (!), Suker refers to clubs with great history. Chelsea ?

    He's a great player, but I think he would step on other players toes or be forced to play out of position at Madrid.

    Stick with Spurs, they are clawing back up the table and people round the world are noticing him as one of the best attackers there are.

    As for arrogant? The diving aside, he's humble and fair in his opinions, unlike other personalities in football.

    Suker is either on a massive Spurs wind-up (a hangover from his Arsenal days) or he is actually clueless about football to not acknowledge a club like Spurs having a huge history but mentioning Chelsea. It's actually quite funny.

    @13 Arrogant? Can you provide evidence for your accusation? He always comes across very modest in interviews and has been very faithful to the Spurs. I'd say Bale is probably in the top 10 of the best players around and is definitely world class. Having said that, Madrid has already got 2 world class wingers in di Maria and Ronaldo so not sure if it would be a wise move...

    Bale has been injured several times when flicking the ball ahead and leaving his foot planted. He has taken to flicking it and lifting both feet and usually the foul comes in and he can ride it. As people have said I think he anticipated a swipe from the keeper so did his usual attempt at riding the tackle, but the tackle never came so he looked a bit stupid.

    Your 'suspicion', IF correct, still does not answer the question, how was Bale supposed to know in that split-second that that was what the goalkeeper was going to do ?

    Considering the new contract he signed last year, especially the length of it, I can only bet he will be at Tottenham all this season and next.

    After that, who knows. But speculating about incidents over two years in advance is pointless.

    Suker`s comments are what you would expect from a former Gooner. He should be more interested in commenting on why Croatia`s best player is currently wasting his career warming the bench at Madrid.

    A lot is said about diving but considering how much cheating goes on in the game, diving is just the tip of the iceberg. How is diving really that different to a player calling for a goal kick when he knows it is a corner? Both are actions to con the ref into giving an incorrect decision. Just because diving looks ridiculous it doesn't make it a higher level of cheating.
