Veteran Peterborough United midfielder Grant McCann believes he can still contribute to a successful season.

The 34-year-old took up a player-coach role last year and made his first start of the season in Saturday's 1-0 win over Fleetwood.

"I'm as fit as I've ever been. I don't miss any training sessions and I train the same as an 18-year-old," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I just need more games. I still feel I've got a lot to offer the club."

Northern Ireland international McCann has been combining his playing duties with a coaching role in the club's youth setup since the summer of 2013.

He made 47 appearances last season as Peterborough fell short in their bid to win promotion back to the Championship, but has been restricted to five games off the bench and one start this term.

"I just need more games now to get my match fitness back," said the former Scunthorpe man. "I felt a little rusty on Saturday in terms of passing, but that will come with the more games I play."
