Gresford pit disaster's 80th anniversary marked

Services have been held to mark the 80th anniversary of Gresford pit disaster which claimed the lives of 266 miners in Wrexham.

Descendants among those attending Monday's memorial ceremonies include Ruby McBurney, from Wrexham, who was three when her father died.

A new group has been set up to preserve the memory of those who died in the disaster caused by an explosion.

The 1934 tragedy left hundreds of children fatherless and more than 200 widows.

Only 11 bodies were ever recovered.

Matthew Richards reports.
