John Lennon's Lucy in the Sky lyrics to be auctioned

John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds are expected to fetch more than $200,000 (£122,000) at auction.

The sheet, to be sold at a Los Angeles auction on 14 and 15 May, features the song's third verse and the opening words to She's Leaving Home.

Both songs feature on 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

When Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was released it was speculated that the song was about LSD.

The Beatles always denied this, with Lennon saying the inspiration had come from a picture his son Julian had drawn of a classmate named Lucy Vodden.

Lennon's lyric sheet, to be auctioned at the Saban theatre in Beverly Hills, also features a drawing of four people in a room with draped curtains.

Complete with crossings out, it features the verse: "Picture yourself on a train in a station, with plasticine porters with looking glass ties.

"Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile, the girl with kaleidoscope eyes."

From She's Leaving Home it features the opening words: "Wednesday morning at..."

Last June the handwritten lyrics for A Day in the Life by the Beatles sold for $1.2m (£734,000).
