Evra has scored three goals for Manchester United

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has signed a contract extension that is set to keep him at Old Trafford until at least the end of the 2013/14 season.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has made 226 appearances for United after joining them from Monaco for £5m in 2006.

Evra told the club's website: "Ever since I arrived at United, it's been a dream come true playing here.

"I've won a lot in the last five years, but I want to win more and I know that's the mentality of everyone here."

Evra has won three Premier League titles and a Champions League medal since joining the Old Trafford outfit and has established himself as a crowd favourite.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Patrice is unquestionably one of the world's best left-backs.

"He has developed into a key character in the dressing room and it is great he has committed himself to the club.

"His experience and skill will be increasingly important to us."

Evra was rested for United's fifth round FA Cup tie with Crawley at the weekend but is expected to return for Wednesday's trip to Marseille in the Champions League.

The player is likely to face a hostile reception from the home fans because of his links with Marseille's great rivals Monaco.
