Formula 1's teams would like to see next month's season-opening Grand Prix in Bahrain cancelled in the wake of the bloody violence in the island kingdom but contractual commitments to F1 Management and sensitive partnerships with the region mean they will wait for F1's powers to make the decision for them. The Bahrain Grand Prix is unlikely to go ahead as planned on March 13 and if it does at least one leading team will not be there. Most teams would refuse to go, on the basis that the safety of their staff could not be guaranteed. On top of that, they do not want the race to be hijacked by any group looking to make a political point.

Fernando Alonso left Barcelona immediately after the end of testing on Saturday to fly to Italy, where his pop singer wife Raquel del Rosario is taking part in the finals of the Festival of Italian Song. The Spaniard said he expected tyre wear to create better overtaking opportunities in 2011 than using the moveable rear wing, which has been designed for that purpose.

Former Hispania driver Karun Chandhok tested with British Formula Three team Double R Racing at Pembrey this week, in preparation for a return to Formula 1. The Indian is expected to test for Team Lotus soon, with a view to becoming the team's reserve driver.
