Lockerbie widow 'disgusted' by report findings

Stephanie Bernstein, whose husband Michael died in the Lockerbie bombing, said she is "sick to the stomach" at the thought of the UK government assisting in Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi's release.

A report by Sir Gus O'Donnell, the country's most senior civil servant, said there was an underlying desire of the then Labour UK government to see Mr Megrahi released before he died.

But his report concluded that it was made clear to Libya that the final decision was up to Scottish ministers and there was no evidence of Labour pressure on the Holyrood government.

Suggestions in the report that UK ministers changed their position on Megrahi due to commercial considerations, including lobbying by oil firm BP, in Libya, were dismissed by David Cameron.
