Oldham moved to within a point of the League One play-offs with victory at struggling Plymouth.
Following a disappointing first half, Chris Taylor's mazy run set up Dale Stephens to put the visitors ahead two minutes after the break.
Plymouth fell two behind in the 73rd minute as Oumare Tounkara crashed a thumping drive into the roof of the net following a goalmouth scramble.
Oldham are now a point behind sixth-placed MK Dons with a game in hand.
Plymouth Argyle manager Peter Reid told BBC Radio Devon: "We played some decent stuff, but goals change games and there were a couple of good chances that we didn't stick away.
"The lads have put in a good shift, but we got caught cold at the beginning of the second half and unfortunately we conceded.
"It's been a bad week for us, but we've got to fight, we've got to get our heads up and go and win the game on Tuesday."
Oldham Athletic player-manager Paul Dickov told BBC Radio Manchester: "The one thing I've got win, lose or draw is a group of young boys who are willing to work there socks off for me and I'm very proud of them today.
"We were excellent with everybody right through the team and it's a strong unit we've got.
"We would like to strengthen but it's got to be the right person as well as the right player and if someone does come in they will have to fit into the squad."
