Win for Lego programming pupils

Schoolchildren have been taking part in an official Lego tournament in Oxfordshire in a bid to improve their science, engineering and maths skills.

The regional contest, in Didcot, required children to build and program a robot using Lego.

Wantage Church of England Primary will now go through to the national final at Loughborough University in January.

They beat Witney's Henry Box School in the regional final by programming their robot to complete the most tasks.

Organiser Siobhan Tierney said: "They demonstrated outstanding scores across all areas of the competition."

About 60 children took part in the Oxfordshire heat and had been building their robots since September when they were sent a basic construction pack.

As well as the technical aspects of robot construction and programming the groups of students also had to prepare a report on biomedical engineering.
