In Pictures: Museum Of Broken Relationships
The Museum Of Broken Relationships recently launched its first permanent exhibition in the Croatian capital Zagreb. The quirky collection contains over 700 objects donated by people all over the world whose liasions have come to an end.
The exhibition was born when two Zagreb artists, Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic, split up and wanted to do something creative with the pain they were feeling. They decided to collect the objects left over from their relationship.
Marriage: This wedding dress is one of the most glamorous objects at the gallery. It was worn at a couple's ceremony in Kavala, Greece in 1994. People donating the objects say the exhibition acts as therapeutic relief.
Destruction: With love of course, comes passion and fury. This piece - a wooden axe donated from Germany - exemplifies just that. It was used by a woman to slice up her ex-lover's furniture collection when they ended their relationship.
Heartbreak: This bear may look cute and cuddly but it holds a bitter memory. "I got this teddy bear on Valentine's Day. He survived because it wasn’t him who hurt me, but the idiot who left him behind," wrote a previous broken-hearted owner.
Lust: Behind a beaded curtain lies an area simply called "Whims Of Desire" where are all sorts of titillating objects are stored.
Sex: One memento from a previous entanglement speaks volumes. Other objects in this section include belts and love potions.
War: “Love was born when she helped me get certain materials which I needed for my under-knee prosthesis as a war invalid. The prosthesis endured longer than our love," reads a message on a prosthetic leg which lies in the final room.
