Goodluck Jonathan wins PDP presidential nomination

The president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has been confirmed as the governing PDP's candidate in April's elections.

The PDP has been Nigeria's dominant party, since the end of military rule in 1999.

Some 5000 delegates from Nigeria's 36 states voted well into the night at a convention in the capital Abuja, choosing between the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan and the former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar and Sarah Jubril.

Our reporter Abudulahi Kaura Abubakar was there and told BBC Network Africa's Peter Ndoro that the result was surprising.
