Edinburgh student is Gay Girl in Damascus blogger

A blog purportedly written by a gay woman in Syria, which described life in Damascus amid the current political unrest, has been revealed to be a hoax.

The true author of A Gay Girl in Damascus is Tom MacMaster, a 40-year-old American Middle East activist studying at Edinburgh University .

He told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland programme why he wrote the blog.
