Anand Panyarachun, Former Prime Minister of Thailand

How confident is Anand Panyarachun that the military will not again interfere after the national election on 3 July and derail Thailand's economic and political stability?

Thailand's recent history has been blighted by political instability and military coups. Anand Panyarachun was installed as prime minister after a coup in 1991 and again the following year. This year he headed a National Reform Committee, looking into ways of changing Thailand's economy and society. But after the military coup of 2006 is he confident the military will not again interfere after the national election on 3 July and derail Thailand's economic and political stability? Stephen Sackur talks to Anand Panyarachun in Bangkok.
