Fleetwood recruit former Wrexham striker Andy Mangan

Andy Mangan
Mangan has made 218 career appearances

Fleetwood Town will complete their fourth signing of the summer when forward Andy Mangan joins the club on 1 July after leaving Wrexham.

The 24-year-old was the Conference's leading scorer in 2009-10 with 26 goals in 38 games with Forest Green Rovers.

He added a further 16 goals for Wrexham last season.

Mangan began his career with Blackpool. He had two separate spells with Accrington, either side of one season with Bury.

Mangan told the Fleetwood Town website : "It feels great to sign for Fleetwood. I have great memories of Wrexham but after speaking to the chairman and manager I could see the club are going in the right direction.

"Both us [and Wrexham] were in the play-offs and neither got through. That's something I'd like to improve on next season.

It is a real statement of where the club is that we can attract players of his calibre

Fleetwood chief executive Steve Curwood

"I've been the leading goal scorer for the club that I've played for in each of the last three seasons and I will bring goals with me.

"I enjoy hard work and play for the team - that comes first and the goals follow.

"Hard work means you will stay in the team but Fleetwood already have a good strike force and I'll contribute as well to claim a regular shirt."

Fleetwood's debut season in Blue Square Bet Premier ended with defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the play-off semi-finals.

They are due to return to training on 1 July, and chief executive Steve Curwood believes Mangan will bring a different approach to the team.

"Everyone knows what an exciting player he is," he said.

"It is a real statement of where the club is that we can attract players of his calibre.

"The paperwork will be finalised when the transfer window opens next week.

"This isn't the end of our transfer activity and we expect more movement over the next couple of weeks."

Meanwhile Junior Brown, Jamie McGuire, Scott Davies and Shaun Beeley have all signed new deals at the club.
