Cardiff church tells story of Jesus with graffiti

Beulah United Reformed church in Rhiwbina, Cardiff has been working with artist Jo Jones and graphic designer Bleddyn Edwards to create a series of graffiti images of Jesus' life on the outside of the church hall in the centre of the village

‘Walk with me’ - Christ Friend and Companion

The project is part of an artist residency called 'Out of the Frame'. The images began appearing about a month ago and the project culminates in a food festival and exhibition at the church on Easter Saturday

The graffiti project challenges the traditional images of Jesus as he's shown at a party, under arrest and being chastised by a vicar

The graffiti design is generated by graphic artist Bleddyn Edwards and then printed onto large sheets of paper. Artist Jo Jones then creates a stencil out of the design which takes around seven hours before painting over each previous image with the new image.

The minister of Beulah United Reform Church, Reverend Dr Peter Cruchley Jones says "We're trying to bring Jesus out of the church to move away from the traditional image of Jesus and strike up a debate."

Jo Jones has been artist in residence at Beulah church for the past two and a half years. She says "It's been great to be involved in a project that lots of people have seen. We've had really positive comments about it."

A final image of Jesus has been made into a label for a bottle of wine. It will be revealed during the Food Festival at the church on Easter Saturday
