Obama hails 'pragmatic' Poland at end of European tour

President Obama has praised Poland's "pragmatic approach" to its relations with Russia at the end of his six-day European tour.

Speaking at a press conference with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Mr Obama said that America's "re-set" with Russia had benefited both the US and Poland, and that he applauded Mr Tusk's efforts to this end "even if it's not always the most politically popular thing to do."

Polish leaders were disappointed when President Obama decided not to proceed with plans by President George W Bush for a missile shield on Polish soil, reading it as deference to Russia and as a sign of a lack of commitment to Poland.
