Regional heats: more information

During April and May 2011, the BBC Radio 2 New Comedy Award hits the road. Successful contestants are invited to perform at a heat closest to them from 8 venues around the country – there will be 10 heats (2 in London and Manchester).

From the ten countrywide heats, 12 acts will go through to the semi-finals, but just one person from each heat will be selected by the judges on the night. One runner-up from each heat will also be chosen to go through to an online audience vote which will open after the final heat has taken place. The public will then decide which two acts from these ten runners-up will go onto the semi finals. The online vote will open after the last heat has taken place, and will be open for one week.

Each semi final will have 6 contestants and will be judged by an esteemed panel on the night – the judges will put through their top three contestants to the final. Both the semi-finals and final will be broadcast on Radio 2.

The BBC Radio 2 New Comedy Award 2011 will culminate in an as-live 60 minute final hosted by Patrick which, as well as performances from our 6 finalists, will include live music and stand-up from one of the esteemed previous winners of the award. A panel of judges will be present on the night, but the listening audience will pick the winner.
