A three-year-old British girl has fallen to her death from a high-rise apartment in Singapore.

The child was pronounced dead by ambulance staff after the incident at Fraser Residence Orchard on Monday.

Her family have now left the upmarket serviced apartment in the centre of the city-state. Her parents are reportedly professionals working in Singapore.

The Foreign Office has confirmed the death and said it had provided consular assistance to the family.

According to a report on the website of Singapore's Straits Times, the girl fell from a 16th floor balcony of the building in the Cairnhill area.

Police said they received a call at about 18:15 local time and found the body of the girl by the swimming pool, the newspaper said.

Fraser Residence is part of the Frasers Hospitality group of companies, which has its head office in Singapore. The firm also has apartments and suites in countries including Australia, China, France, the UAE and the UK.

In a statement, the company said: "A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was found at the pool deck of Fraser Residence Orchard at approximately 6.15pm on August 1 and she was pronounced dead when the police arrived.

"It is understood that the police have ruled out foul play."

A spokeswoman for the company added: "The family want to keep everything very private because they are still grieving."
