CarFest, CarMalade.

redbee | 20:20 UK time, Monday, 27 February 2012

CarFest, CarMalade. Whatever. Bring the family. Food and all good stuff on the left, crazy car goings on on the right. And a whoppingly exciting hill climb cutting the two in half. It's a one night stop over mini fest for all the family. Cars Food Music And Camping. Rock on. August Bank Holiday weekend. And all for Children In Need.

Love it.

Now can anyone help get our hands on 200 portaloos ???

Peace and Love

Evening CE and bloggerland. Now assuming the lolypmics will have finished you should be able to get portaloos but if they haven't I think your event is doomed. I would like to be there tho.

    happy eventing

Just discovered they don't end until 9th September so I should think portaloos will be in very short supply - good luck Chris.

    Evening Chris ,Susan.

Well if all else fails Chris .there is aways the little mans Potty or I'm afraid it's going to be a bucket job.
But whatever it's going to be ,it's bound to be good and a great success. And Chris good on you for all you do for CIN.

And on that note I'm off now for my said early night .

    Nite ,nite .God Bless ...Bids.xxx.

Portaloos be d*mned Chris!! Luxury transient loos, like we had at my brother & sis-in-law's wedding - THEY'RE what you need! Oh yes.

I think it should be called "Car-ve Fest" - Car, Fest, and a Carvery (Hog'n'Beef Roast for the evening do, plus ale kegs from a quality local independent brewery) - job on!!

My stall? I LOVE making soup from scratch, so I'd be a clanging soup-dragon and have a fresh soup stall to restore everyone. Spicy soups for the adults, simple soups for the kiddlets, chunky and warming if the weather is cold, smooth and refreshing if the weather's cold. Recipe books sold in aid of Children in Need.

Quality tunes, plus beer-fest 'til dawn = happy memories to last a lifetime! :-)

P.S. I loathe and despise marmalade with bits in - 'tis the Devil's own jam from Hell itself. However - LIME marmalade, without bits.... niiiice!

    Keep smiling!

Sorry, haven't caught up, have been poorly, but in a more serious way this time...

I'm ok though, on the mend, and the ex-MrJG performed well and beyond expectations of duty!! I am so grateful to him and the NW Ambulance and Wigan hospital...

I'm not going to post details, other than to say I'm fine now, and will be back at work hopefully Wednesday xxx

You know what slopes are really made for? It can only be one thing, and that is Cheese rolling, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tm5La2Kzyw, the Cheshire Cheese Company were crowned Champion Cheese Rollers of Chester last Tuesday, this will undoubtedly bring an entertaining Cheesey angle to the day, the Mad Hatter will help organise the fancy dress Big Roll.

This does sound amazing - couple of boring questions:

    1) where is it?
    2) How much?
    3) is it the same weekend at the closing ceromny with blur at hyde park as I already have tickets for that?

    Good morning all,

Chris ,that extra energy that you spoke of earlier ,can you just pop some down the radio waves for me ,seeing as you are brimming with it ,would be nice to share .

Jg ,{{{hugs}}} for you me dear ,take care.

Baggy have just looked on the map to see where this car fest is and if Chris said Laverstock ,its just slightly west of Salisbury ,that's about an hour away from us .And very pretty countryside .

And the portaloo have been booked ....don't forget your wipes .It sounds like it's going to be a good w/end.

Another grey day here today on the south coast, but very mild so no complaints from this camp.

    Hello to big cheese.

Take care all, and have a great day .

    Bids..XXX.

PS Chris has just said he wants some bands ,now have any of you out there got a tambourine.lol.

    Hi everyone:

Dozer: nice to see you, and great to hear about your weekend - sounds really lovely. xx

JG: how awful for you. Glad to hear ex-MrJG stepped up to the mark. Take care, and make sure you don't go back to work too soon. xx

Bids: sounds like you and Mr Bids had a lovely day yesterday. xx

Nice to see The Big Cheese and Michelle - would be lovely if you stuck around.

    Hiya Susan and Roo. xx

I haven't a clue what Chris is referring to - must have missed this yesterday. I'm sure it will be a great day - it would be worth trudging up that hill, if there was the possibility of Chris being at the top of it!

Baggy: hope you and Mr Baggy are able to go to the Fest!

    Have a happy Tuesday, everyone.

Laverstock isnt that far from us at all - maybe 1.5 hours?

My tickets for Blur et all are 12 August so we may possibly be free, problem is I really don't know what we will be doing - lets hope we can get tickets on the door!

Loving your ideas about things you can do - I'm afarid I can only offer accountanct advice - possible not the kind of thing for a stall!

    Hello Chris,

    Car Fest sounds great!!!

Please support a local young indie/rock band 'OkCorrel' they would love to play for free as support in any which way! All the lads are from neighboring villages Witchurch, Oakley and Overton and attended Testbourne community school a few years ago. Check out a couple of their songs on 'Myspace/Facebook'.......... they also have a new E.P which I can send to you?

    A big fingers crossed!

Much love for you and the show

Cheshire is fine and dandy thank you. As you've probably gathered I'm near the border with Wales. Most millionaires live t'other side of Cheshire.

I'm loving this talk of August B H weekend. Salisbury is a lovely part of the world. Mr PJ and I love Wiltshire - have had many happy holidays there - sampling a certain Wiltshire brew XXXXXX ( count the X's ).

Certainly saw the coverage in the local press about the cheese rolling competition in Chester. It's great fun - rolling a large cheese around obstacles in the streets. Wiiners this year came from t'other side of the County. Gotta let them win occasionally !

    Regards PJ

Devon is a great place to source bands for Car Fest.

Not only do we have Coldplay and Muse, but would recommend the following more reasonably priced acts

Seth Lakeman - Mercury award winning folk musician
Show of Hands - One of Simon Mayo's favourite bands
Mad Dog Mcrea - Irish Celtic Folk Rock Group, who do justice to any Dubliner's song and have a cult following in Devon and Cornwall.

What about a Led Zepplin tribute band. Being driven mad each morning as you tempt us with the start of Kashmir. Please Please play it in full, maybe just after 8. I know it's long, but would be great.

Lovely to see so many new names and voices here - newbies are often moderated when they first post so hope we'll see your posts back soon. You can't advertise on a BBC blog though so if you want to tell Chris about a product or service, you might do better to email the show - he has said in the past that all emails are read so you have more chance of getting your message through to the right person

I love the idea of local Up-&-Coming bands being involved! That sunds like a great idea - make sure you send that through

Have just sent out a happy letter at work - telling people when they are getting what they want! How long before someone comes to "query" it!

JG, sorry to hear you've been proper poorly x x

Just gutted!!! I live in the village next to Carfest's beautiful location... It's my BIG birthday that weekend and because it has always been the middle of the school hols (for me when younger and now my kidlets) I haven't really rustled up enough people for a big old party in the past. I've booked the hall and sent 'save the dates' out months in advance.... now Carfest is going to be in our back yard and I just don't know what to do!!! Cancel the whole thing (but I have been soooo excited about it) and come to Carfest; or carry on regardless, hoping that my little disco can be heard over the big old bands playing that night?! Great idea and for a great cause, gutted to have to choose between the two. And will my local pals want to go to Carfest instead?! I wouldn't blame them if they do :-)

Morning all sorry I havent been around

The weekend was manic and mad and gone in a the wink of an eye. However, worth it the front of the house is looking ace and making the kitchen and dining look old and tired so that has got to be the next job.

Gone manic at work too end of the financial year and clients wanting to spend that bit of cash they have left over before it gets taken off them.

Love the idea of the festival but honestly dont know what I am doing on the bank holiday in August although it is possible that my bruvver will be over from Canada.

Thinking of my mum and dad today they are going to the internment of Nans ashes, but we are all meeting on Saturday to celebrate nans brothers 80th birthday so I am sure we shall remember her there too.

I know nothing about portaloos apart from they smell awful after the V festival at Weston.

    Have a good day everyone

I only caught news of this briefly this morning, so if the festival is at Jody Scheckter's Park, its not Laverstock it's Laverstoke. Lovely place, lived there all my life. Apologies if it is near Salisbury and I've got the wrong end of the stick!

    Afternoon All,

Wow that sounds exciting and I'm free that weekend and have a tent - Rock on! Although the portaloos put me off a bit, if I'm honest.

Good to see some new faces on the blog, don't just make it a one off, join in the fun.

Sorry that I haven't blogged for a while but I've been right busy. Spent the weekend with my brother and his family, which was great. Yesterday I was here, there and everywhere.

Tomorrow I have to go "up town" to attend a tribunal, which I am not looking forward to. Nothing serious but scary none the less, so any positive vibes you can throw my way would be very much appreciated.

Big hugs to JG and Keith {{{BIG HUGS}}} and anyone else who might need them.

  • Comment number 44.

    Hello CE & Everyone.

A lovely spring day here on the Wirral peninsula.

This is a great idea for Children in Need Chris and on August Bank Holiday when so many people can go. My advice is to go to the crazy car goings on on the right first before going to the good food goings on on the left. Not a good idea to be climbing up the hill on a full stomach and much better to build up a good appetite following the car stuff.

I can't go :( as I would never make it up the hill with my COPD and my scooter would never make it either. Come to think of it it's lucky that I live on mostly flat ground.

Chris?!?!?! You asked for help getting 200 portaloos and so people have come forward only to be removed I presume for advertising. If I was a bog maker I would have advertised my wares here today. Actually I am descended from bog makers, my great great great uncle made urinals, fireplaces, Welsh & Scottish roof slating direct from the Welsh quarries, also coats of arms, etc. designer & enameller to the then Prince & Princess of Wales.

Need more details Mr E please...not that we is demanding or anything *shakes head and pouts*..

MM, really not digging the ditch idea tho... ok, i`ll get me coat..

JG - sorry you`ve not been well but glad you are now on the mend.. x

Ali - good luck with the tribunal thing. As with all such things the thought is often worse than the event.. will send mucho positive vibes your way..

Picture the scene, if you will.

August Bank Holiday Monday 2012 and a group of Lovely Bloggers are gathered in a small village just to the east of Salisbury in Wiltshire.

After informing each other of what they had for breakfast one LB comments

    "It's a bit quiet, isn't it?"

"We're probably just a bit early" replies another.

Meanwhile in a small village to the east of Andover in Hampshire, the Chris Evans Carfest in aid of CIN is in full flow.

Hey Chris, Glad to hear that the examination found only a hiatus hernia. I say "only" but I had mine operated on when I was seven and apart form not having a belly button, there were no other lasting effects ;0)
I seem to recall milking it for all I was worth and as we lived in Germany, I think I probably used that to my advantage too (scary foreign hospital etc) - just think of the ice cream you can demand!

Love the idea of Carfest - having never made it to your Supercar Sunday, I will definitely make arrangements around the rugby season for this.
    Two things:
1: You have to run your own magnificent seven up the hill to round off the event, by this, I mean your big seven - not necessarily cars you own - but you can put your hands on almost anything, so your top seven!
2: Can I offer my services - anything from structural steelwork to kitchen extract systems in the cooking zone to driving cars up the hill ;0) - would live to get involved and give some time in return.

lovely thoughts about the car show - great to see so much interest and well done Rips for offering to help out - if you need a girl Friday I might be around!

On a different topic - today is 29th Feb, which means that all rules can be relaxed - so if you could do one thing, or have one thing today what would it be?

It is also eight years ago that I asked mr bp to marry me (he said he would think about it) and 4 years ago tomorrow that he eventually asked me to marry him - so after nearly ten years together this is our first leap year as a married couple!

Good morning everyone. This is my first post, so hopefully I won't break any rules.

No problem with the lack of loos - just dig a big pit, and we can all use our own caravan toilets. Not sure what you do in a tent though.

When I was a Girl Guide, we used to have latrines - I seem to remember having to dig those out too. Nice.

Anyway - can we bring our caravan? And our 200+ recipes for using lovely fresh food in a caravan or tent??

    I'll keep the weekend free.

Been both busy and poorly, in that order, so not been around much.

Debs I had the same sort of idea, that it would be a great place for the bloggers to offer up some time, either stewarding or any other organising that needs help with on the day.

It could be the first mega Blog meet, although the summer one in Edinburgh looks fairly popular so far!

Hope we can do something to help in any small way.

Margueritas, Pina Coladas, Caribbean Punch, cookies. Oh yes. We don't care what else is one anywhere else in the world, we're coming to CarFest.

Blondie - thanks for the loo offer - you do realise hundreds may use it? We will bring our paper!

sorry to put a personal matter on here - can people see my posts on fb? Those who are friends with me? I wasn't sure if I was just so dull no one was liking or commenting or if they were hidden?

If you can - please like or something my comment thanks

Just a quick drop by to say Hello.

Baggy, I dont know how you did it, but you seem to have beaten the three minute delay thingy!

I know there has been a problem posting next door and requests have been made to get rid of the delay, I'll try and post again and see if it has in fact been removed....

    Morning Baggy

I think it might be they way that FB organises posts now as I seem to only see updates from the same two or three people, and I'm sure I have more friends than that?!

    I'll have a look though.

    Cheers

Thanks Baggy, just tried that next door.

    Big fail. LOL.

Has the green box been making an appearance over here?

  • Comment number 82.

    Morning all
Baggy, I think I'm going to have to sail over to your lonely island it's very boring on my deserted island here this morning!

I don't know if everyone is hiding but it's very quiet here today!

Shall we send out a message in a bottle!

Sal, The Box has been sneaking up on us at random moments to block our posts.

Hope all the nice people here are going to join us on our island!

    Hi Chris
Great idea but what about getting some folk bands too like "Show of Hands" or Kathryn Tickell?

  • Comment number 84.

    Hi Chris
I think the CarFest concept is brilliant and I'll be there! I heard you are looking for tribute bands for the event – is that correct? I haven't seen many tribute bands but one that stood out was a Rolling Stones tribute I saw recently called simply 'The Stones' – they were incredible! I think 2012 is the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones so I think a tribute would go down well if you can't persuade Mick, Ronnie, Bill and Charlie to play!

Andy & Baggy, I sent an email to Chris to say that his merry band of bloggers could help out, so I'll wait to see what comes back if anything.

hello to all new bloggers! Please stay and join in the chit chat!

Just back from vets with doggy with skin allergy - £270 lighter - need to go for a lie down.....

Sounds great - Thames Valley Mini Club are always up for a good weekend - send us some more details and perhaps we can help get a significant number of minis there

    Hi all!

Just heard about this and was told Chris is looking for some bands to play, I'm from a Queens of the Stone Age tribute band. We think it's great music to accompany roaring engines and the smell of fuel and rubber! :-) let us know what you think! Cheers all!

If you could bring your own loo tickets that would be good. Don't know how long the family size koala will last.

There's a fab Johnny Cash tribute called Keep It Cash who recently played at the Brighton Komedia. Brilliant they are and they did the stuff for Walk the Line.

morning! car-fest sounds a great idea....how about a tipi circle? and a great kids activity area? run by the best early years staff that work for a local authority.... my partner and i can help....:)

  • Comment number 92.

Hi Chris. The car fest sounds fun. We would like to compete in the Hill climb and have the relevant licences if the event team think we are appropriate. My wife (Gillian F-T) raced against Jody back in the 70s - ask him!

Chris, how do you fancy the first ever Reliant Scimitar GT attending this shindig? I can bring it down with my mate driving the support car of his Wolseley 16/60 (loaded with tea and biccies of course) - just give me a shout via [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator] if you're keen, cheers, Matt [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator]

Now if you fancy 'Five Fat Old Blokes Singing The Blues' (aka 58' Deluxe) I'm sure we could come to some arrangement, ie. burger, chips and beer?

Splendid job Mr E !

    Hello Chris!

U know of a brilliant SKA band called Skangsters, you can check them out on youtube but they are so much better live!!!!!

  • Comment number 99.

Chris, you HAVE to ask Oysterband to play at Carfest - they won Best Band, Album and Trad Song at the Folk Awards and they are awesome live! To get a flavour of the Oysters [who are all lovely chaps too, dead modest despite their awesome talent], check out "Blood Wedding", "Early Days Of A Better Nation", "Coal Not Dole" and "When I'm Up, I Can't Get Down" for starters. You must ask them Chris, I bet they would say Yes if they are free!

    Hi Chris

Thought I'd let you know about my band, Band de Jour. We'd love to play! We can play for free, too!

We play an energetic mix of indie and rock classics plus plenty of modern stuff from the likes of Kings of Leon, Paulo Nutini and Noah & The Whale.

You can check out one of last year's festival performances on banddejour.com.

All the best and good luck with the festival!

    Matt
