Vardy rescues point for Leicester against 10-man Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Sport: "We lost two points. I think we deserved to win the game. But when you have the chances you have to kill them. Three or four-nil and the game is over. We had to play a long time with 10 men.

"I was agitated for a previous incident that was a red card (in the first half). The referee has made a decision and we have to learn from that, as well it is our fault because it is the fourth time since I have been here we have played with 10 men and we have to reflect on that.

"Knowing Eddie no, looking at the challenge on the camera arguably it can be a red card or not. He will learn from that because he is such a young kid.

"It is where we want to head. I am really proud because a lot of things we worked on happened, the players are believing in the way we want to play, how aggressive we want to be. Just that little extra quality to finish the actions better.

"The boys played really well credit to them. I am so proud. We take the positives, keep improving and go again against Spurs and try to win."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "I am extremely proud of our team, the way we played against this kind of opposition. We should have been three or four-nil up. With the red card you have to know he is a young kid. Leicester should play with 10 men after 42 minutes. For a challenge between the 40th and 45th minute.

On the referee using the monitor to decide on the red card: "I don't understand the rules. I never see a referee check any of the images. But I can do nothing now, it is the rules. We lost two points, we lost Eddie and we will see now for how many games. But we go to Spurs now and try to win three points.

On his side's performance: "They played tremendously well. The recovery time is difficult but you can see the effort the players are putting in. I am extremely proud of the players. We have to learn as well. When you have this kind of opposition and you are on top you have to kill them when you can."

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we started well and then we conceded and from that for about 15-20 minutes it became a bit basketball - too much space and we didn't press it well enough. We just needed to come together and reinforce some items without the ball. Second half I thought we were outstanding. 11 v 11 we were the better team after the break. I was pleased with how they managed 11 v 10 because it is never easy. We got the deserved goal. We will take the point and it could be very important for us.

"It is such a young team and we need the courage to interplay. We didn't do it enough in the first half. Lacazette was an issue for us. Once we organised that and put pressure on the ball from behind, we were able to play up the pitch. My only disappointment is that we didn't go on and win the game. The subs made a brilliant impact. It is how you should play against the low block and 10 men. It was just the final ball that would get us the second goal.

"It was a clear red card. I don't think young Eddie tried to make the challenge he did. He is stretching. But you can see and I'm thankful it doesn't result in injury.

"It is good for us (the draw). Arsenal have been on a run but we have come here after a tough game at the weekend and play well. We didn't lose it so it is good for the sport. It gives us confidence to continue with this mindset."

More from Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BBC Sport: "Jamie Vardy is brilliant. We kept our focus, kept our patience. It was a great ball in and Jamie did what he does best.

On Eddie Nketiah's red card: "It was a red card. I don't think the kid meant it, he was stretching for it but the studs were up. I think they made the right decision.

"Kasper made some great saves in the first half. He is up there with the top keepers at this level.

"I think this is a really, really imporant point for us to keep the momentum going. I am delighted with it."

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought a point was the minimum we deserved. We started well and then conceded too much space and they got the goal from that. There was a spell for 15 minutes where it was a bit like basketball. The game was a bit open for my liking. Towards the end of the first half we connected the game better and second half I felt we were excellent. We played with composure and got into some good areas. At 11-10 we managed it really well, got the goal and unfortunate not to have got a second.

"It is very important to think on performance. After a good start we stopped taking the ball and stopped making our passes. We started to rush the passes but second half was more like it with the speed and positioning in the game."

Poor Brendan Rodgers is having to do these post-match interviews outside and in the pouring rain. He's absolutely soaked. No-one got an umbrella?

Sam: Bit gutted there, think man for man we were the better side. Think the Nketiah moment was one of those that’s between a yellow and red, that said can’t complain with the decision too much. Huge game in the NLD on the weekend, at least we showed we had a spine today

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez tells BBC Sport: "100% [we should have won]. Before Eddie Nketiah got sent off we played an outstanding game and should have scored two or there goals. We defended well and have to be happy with a draw, we wanted to win.

"I know Eddie, he is not an aggressive player. He slipped and did not want to injure him and the red card is harsh. We know Eddie and we know he is a nice guy,

"Somtimes you score, sometimes you do't. Before the red card we looked solid and I did not have to make a save in the second half.

"I know I am going to concede goals but hopefully I can keep more clean sheets for this club. That is one thing we have to work on and disappointed to concede at the end."

Leicester City goalscorer Jamie Vardy, speaking to Sky Sports: "We started the game well. When we went 1-0 down we started panicking a bit. Going down to 10 men meant they worked even harder but we stuck to our plan and got the goal.

"Doesn't matter who scores as long as we are picking points up. We wanted to keep the momentum going, back into training now and focus on next week."

A good point for both sides? Arsenal will feel disappointed that they didn't take the many chances they had in the first half but the draw keeps their unbeaten run going.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was very tough, against a team who are good at keeping the ball. But we did well and dig in. We conceded a goal but we did well. It is focus and determination.

"It gives us confidence to keep the run going and stay unbeaten. We wanted to win but so long as we don't get beat.

"I feel since the break I have come back better. I feel more settled in London. The break had done me wonders and I am grateful for every opportunity I get."

"I had a view (of Eddie Nketiah's foul). For me he is not the kind of player who would do that."

Paul Harris: Very unlucky, Arsenal. All 3 VAR decisions looked right to me, but we were by far the better side. Leicester will know they nicked a point.

Josh Slater: If we do miss out for europe, maybe it's a blessing in disguise? Then arteta can just focus on the league.

Premier League’s leading hotshots - Aubameyang and Vardy - will get the headlines, but the quality of the assists from Saka and Gray were worth their weight in gold. Nketiah's red card came just as Leicester had found some rhythm. That’s a big point for the Foxes.

Despite what Mikel Arteta wants, Arsenal are very deep now as Leicester come forward but a ball into the box is straight into Emiliano Martínez's gloves.
