Ten aspiring make-up artists face a beauty editorial shoot for Marie Claire, before producing jaw-dropping make-up transformations at Glow Up HQ.

Hosted by Stacey Dooley, this new competition series sees ten aspiring make-up artists battle to be named Britain’s next make-up star. Tested in a range of real-world professional assignments, each week the weakest two MUAs enter the elimination face-off, with series judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner deciding which one will go home. The last MUA standing at the end of the series wins a contract assisting some of the world’s top make-artists.

In Episode One, the MUAs face their first professional assignment - a beauty editorial shoot. This week’s guest judge, Lisa Oxenham - the Beauty and Style Director for Marie Claire - challenges the amateur MUAs to produce a bold look which fits with the ‘rebellion’ brief of her photo shoot.

The next day, the MUAs gather at Glow Up HQ to find out which two were judged to have performed the worst on the Marie Claire shoot. They start the day in the red ‘Face Off’ chairs. For these two MUAs, the only way to escape the elimination face-off at the end of the show is to wow the judges in the creative brief and hope another MUA fails to impress and takes their place in the red chair.

This week’s creative brief theme sees the MUAs challenged to produce a look based on what beauty means to them. The MUAs produce some jaw-dropping transformations ranging from a prosthetics-based look that comments on the trend for cosmetic surgery, through to a look based on Kintsugi – the ancient Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold.

The judges deliberate over which two MUAs produced the weakest looks before revealing who will take on the first elimination face-off - a make-up skill drill under intense time pressure. The two MUAs are challenged to produce a perfect black lip on identical twins, before the judges decide who is the first MUA to leave the competition.
