  1. Goodbye!

I can think of no better quote with which to leave you on.

We'll be back from 13:30 GMT tomorrow for more Joe Root batting and declaration speculation.

Matt Henry's report from today's play is over here.

Thanks for joining us. In a bit...

  2. 'He'd have sledged his nan!'

    Jonathan Agnew

BBC cricket correspondent in St Lucia

I'm putting a hand up for Shannon Gabriel today. He ran in and ran in. He's sledged everyone today. If his nan was here he'd have sledged his nan!

  3. 'It's a chicken and egg situation'

On Gabriel: "You're playing Test cricket. People will look at this game as a dead rubber but it didn't feel that. You can see that with the way he approaches the game. Sometimes things are said on the field, but they should stay on the field

On declaration: "We've got an opportunity to have a choice of roller in the morning. When they took the new ball, things started to happen quicker. There's a lot of time left in this game and as this game progresses and the cracks get bigger and wider, things will speed up quite quickly. It's a chicken and egg situation of holding your nerve and making sure you pull out at the right time."

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on The Cricket Social

Joe Root just got his sync back. He found it easier today because the ball wasn't swinging as much. Throughout the series he's had three or four jaffa's, it's been difficult for any batsman to find their rhythm in this series but Joe found his rhythm today.

  5. Post update

More from Joe Root on suggestions he's had a lean spell: "You can look at it like that but you can look at some of the dismissals I've had in there too. You have to be realistic sometimes. If you feel form is a numbers game, then I have had a lean run but I've got a good approach to batting and it's stood me in good stead until now."

  6. Post update

    Alastair Cook

Former England captain on The Cricket Social

Root is so important to England in the other two formats - the other players play around him in those formats. Without Joe Root batting well in the ODI side the others don't feel they can attack as much.

He is our world-class batsman and I'd agree with Michael.

  7. Post update

Joe Root, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a brilliant day's cricket. We are now in a commanding position where we have earned the right to make a decision in the morning and hopefully dictate things from there."

  8. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on The Cricket Social

Joe Root should put T20 cricket to one side. I think he's chasing it from the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020.

  9. Post update

Joe Root's series scores thus far: four, 22, seven, seven, 15 and 111 not out.

He's scored three centuries in his past 13 innings and averages 49.80 in Test cricket as it stands.

  10. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on The Cricket Social

I'll be staggered if Joe Denly isn't playing against Ireland.

  11. Post update

More from Joe Denly: "Number three suits me more. I don't mind the openers going out and taking the shine off the new ball, that's for sure."

  12. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on The Cricket Social

I can't see Keaton Jennings making the Ireland game. I just don't think he's got enough buzz in those legs against pace bowling, he looks too static.

  13. Post update

A quick look at the series stats of the top order.

Burns - Six innings, 145 runs at 24.16

Jennings - Four innings, 62 runs at 15.50

Denly - Four innings, 112 runs at 28.00

  14. Post update

    Alastair Cook

Former England captain on The Cricket Social

I was impressed with Joe Denly because he looked like he had time to play today. It was a golden opportunity. He was a couple of overs away from spin at both ends and being able to milk them.

  15. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on The Cricket Social

Joe Denly shaped up really well. I liked the way he played down the ground and those cut shots were of high class. I'm sure he'll get another run of games back in the English summer.

  16. It was a tame ending - Denly

England's Joe Denly, speaking to Sky Sports: "I enjoyed it out there today, I was able to soak it up. It was pleasing to spend some time out there and get a 50 under the belt. Three figures was in the back of my mind, I won't lie, and it was a tame ending. I was always going to chase width if they offered it up and unfortunately I toed it behind to the keeper."

Barney: The battle between Stokes and Gabriel has been wonderful viewing. Two all-action cricketers going head to head, played in a great spirit. That’s what cricket should be all about. Take note, Aussies.

  18. Post update

    Alastair Cook

Former England captain on The Cricket Social

I think England will have 45 minutes in the morning and then get West Indies out there.

  19. Post update

More from Joe Root on the declaration: "We'll have a think about the declaration tonight, see how it plays after the roller and make a decision early on. It feels the more wear you get in this pitch, the quicker it becomes so it might be that the more runs and pressure you put them under tomorrow, it might speed things up later on."

  20. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on The Cricket Social

England didn't lose the first two Test matches due to selection, it was due to their mentality to batting. It was completely out of sync.
