  1. 'It’s a very special season for everyone'

    Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool matchwinner Divock Origi speaking to BBC Sport: “When the free-kick came in I was just trying to flick it on, give it a light touch. It was a good centre by Shaq and in the end it went in so I’m super happy for the team.

"One of our main strengths is being together and working for each other, a mixture of talent and hard work.

"We showed big heart coming here against a very good team with a very good coach and we knew it was going to be a fight, especially after Barcelona. In the end we did it and it was very important for the team.

"You feel the emotion. It’s a very special season for everyone. But as a player you have to channel that feeling into the performance and in the end it worked out.”

  2. 'You expected Liverpool to win easily at 1-0'

    Danny Murphy

Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC One

I’m exhausted, relieved, excited. It was full of quality, energy and commitment. Newcastle deserve great credit. It was a great game of football, so many good performances.

Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t play midweek against Barcelona which was surprising. When he plays he gives you tremendous quality. It was a super ball in for Virgil van Dijk and at that stage you expect Liverpool to win easily but Newcastle got into it, deservedly so.

On TAA's block on the line

It is a handball. But we've spoken to referees and the letter of the law says if a goal comes directly after it then it shouldn’t be a red card.

  3. 'Fabinho has kidded the officials'

    Jermaine Jenas

Former Newcastle midfielder on BBC One

Newcastle left it all out there today. Rafa Benitez will be proud of his team.

Salomon Rondon occupied the whole back four. He made selfless runs. His positioning was very good, in between the centre-backs allowing his team-mates to join him up. They needed that out ball.

The aerial battle was interesting. You could sense something was going to happen for him. He was unfortunate to lose.

On the free-kick which led to the winner...

I think Fabinho has really kidded the officials, thrown himself to the floor. I don’t know how the referee has given it.

  4. 'A victory of passion, heart and absolute desire'

    Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I know what kind of boys I have - who doesn't know after the game today? We played the opposite of a friendly game, playing against a team with the style they have. You have to run, we tried to press, you have to be around the second ball. It's a big challenge to concentrate 100% always.

"I saw in the face of the boys' reaction, it was good. If anyone thought Newcastle weren't playing for anything, wow, that was competitive - but we deserved to win.

"We had games in the past when the other team didn't play for anything anymore and it was easier than expected but today it was harder than expected."

On Divock Origi's winning goal: "That's nearly a fairytale. And now we are qualified for our final on Sunday against Wolves. Of course before that we play Barcelona but i'm not thinking of that yet and then we will see."

On staying calm: "For me it's clear I only have to help the boys. I don't feel pressure. If we are champions then we are champions, you can't feel pressure when you do your best.

"94 points is incredible. Today was a battle of will but it was a victory of passion, heart and absolute desire - absolutely brilliant."

  5. 'Hopefully in one or two weeks we will have more news'

    Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez speaking to BBC Sport: "I’m really proud because it was a difficult game against a very good team but the players gave everything. The fans appreciate that and were behind the team, we couldn’t ask for more.

“We made a few mistakes at set-pieces but in terms of effort and desire we did quite well. We are trying to make sure we don’t make so many mistakes. I don’t know about the third goal but the first two we can do much better.

“We have been quite consistent, working really hard as a team and as a unit, staying very compact. I think we did quite well and knew exactly what we needed to do. It was a great performance from us."

On Salomon Rondon’s future: "You never know, that’s a question we have to wait and see. West Brom will also have to decide but everybody is happy with him and it is something we will try and do."

On his future: “We have been talking the last week and hopefully in one or two weeks we will have more news.”

  11. 'We lost focus and lost the game'

    Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool

    Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Salomon Rondon speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a very difficult game against a very good team. We came back twice, we tried to keep focus and you have to manage the situation, but we lost focus and lost the game.

"It is a difficult league against big teams with very good players. We stayed up and after that we had to maintain our performance; it was our last game at home. We are happy to stay up, we did, and now we move to next season.

On his future: "I am on loan here, Rafa brought me here, I scored goals to help the team to stay up and after that we will see what happens. I am happy and grateful to be here and to wear the number nine. We will see."

Keir from Luton: Liverpool fan here and no matter what happens, we should be proud of the team. We will probably go out of the CL and it's been a good run. I hope Ajax win it but I wouldn't mind either team! And this title race, I don't know if my heart can take it if City drop points against Leicester. The final day is the day of my graduation! Second celebration? Wishful thinking!

  18. 'It wasn't a foul'

    Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Matt Ritchie speaking to Sky Sports on Liverpool's winner: "It wasn't a foul, I was conscious of the fact they're easily given in that position so I got tight so he couldn't roll me but they've given the free-kick wrongly as you can see by my frustrations on pitch."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold's handball before Newcastle's equaliser: "I know we've scored but it's deliberate handball..

"We're disappointed not to take anything from the game. Hopefully with more of that we can get three points on Sunday and finish on a high.

"We need to keep building, the manager wants to compete higher up the league but that's out of our hands. We must continue to work, hopefully we can keep improving."
