6 Things you could BUT shouldn't do at a job interview

A good job application can take weeks to get right, but not if you’re Jazzer McCreary

He scribbled his down on the back of a soggy beer mat in the pub in seconds and put it straight into the hands of his prospective employer, Neil Carter. Whether it was any good or not is beside the point, the man made it to the interview stage at Berrow Farm’s new Pig Unit and left the panel speechless.

Here’s how to do a job interview the Jazzer way:

1. Dress to impress

That means showing them you mean business and if your business is pigs then turn up to the interview on a quad bike wearing dirty overalls.

2. The ‘Why do you want the job?' question

Be totally honest – Jazzer was when he told them it’ll be a piece of cake in comparison with what he currently does.

3. Slag off your boss

Nothing says ‘confidence’ like complaining about your current boss to your prospective one.

4. Team player?

"Celtic or Rangers?" Jazzer responds, take his lead and apply some blue sky thinking to your answers, and read between the lines.

5. Don’t set the bar too high

You don’t want to put yourself in a position where you’ll have too much to live up to if offered the job.

When they say what are your greatest weaknesses don’t trot out the well worn claim that you're a perfectionist, your only problem is you work too hard, aim too high. Instead, go with the personal response, like Jazzer: "it’s a toss-up between whisky and women."

6. Don’t actually WANT the job

That way no one is disappointed if you don’t get it and you can also bask in the relief of not having to do a job you don’t want to do. Take Jazzer, he only went for the interview at Berrow Farm to worry his current employer into giving him a raise.
